The 55 medical students from the University of Alabama who used a commercial test-coaching company's services to prepare for the National Board of Medical Examiners Part I examination scored significantly higher than students with comparable basic science grade-point averages. The concept of equal educational opportunity in Germany has been limited by traditions of class rigidity and elitism. Faced with inordinate demand for admission, the German response has been to institute a limited admission policy. In the early 1970s two experimental universities, one rural (Roskilde) and one urban (Aalborg) were established. Their uniqueness is based on a nontraditional curriculum structure, with an interdisciplinary approach.
