Introduces the Alcohol Education Evaluation Instrument (AEEI), used in assessing the effectiveness of alcohol education programs. A pilot test with 543 elementary students indicated the measure was able to discriminate drinkers from nondrinkers. The relationship of attitudinal items to drinking behavior indicates the measure's usefulness. (JAC)

Examines the impact of teacher training on knowledge about alcohol, attitudes toward its use, and the extent to which teachers implemented what they learned. Surveyed college students' (N=180) knowledge of the effects of alcohol. The collaborative effort between a university counseling center and health center showed that while 70 percent of the students rated themselves as informed drinkers, their answers were less accurate. The study also provided a model of innovative collaboration. (JAC)

Research has demonstrated that while it is relatively easy to increase drug knowledge, it is more difficult to modify attitudes.
