Investigates the status of Arabic in the U.S. in four institutional areas: (1) the periodical press; (2) radio and television; (3) ethnic community schools; and (4) places of worship. Findings based on responses to questionnaires distributed in 1981 and 1982 indicate conscious efforts to maintain Arabic in these communities. (SED)

The process through which elementary and secondary textbooks are produced and sold is discussed. Structural changes in the process of bid specification and textbook adoption are needed. In addition, social studies could be the ideal testing ground for a move away from textbook dependency. (RM)

Evaluates an industrial technology extension program offered on military bases to examine graduates' perceptions as to its effectiveness relative to campus-based programs. Graduates responded to a questionnaire as to how courses helped their mastery of specific competencies, the relevance of academic preparation, and present job satisfaction. (JOW)

The blend of applied behavior analysis and on-site business experience, provided in the undergraduate seminar described here, is an excellent way for increasing the expertise and employment potential of undergraduate psychology majors as well as for involving the university with its surrounding community. Presents results of a study of 198 middle managers which was conducted to determine how age relates to competence as assessed by tests following instructional training, and identifies issues regarding test use in assessing employee competence. Results indicate there is a trend for older adults to obtain poorer test scores. (MBR)
