Peer reviewedChamberlain, Howard; Van Fleet, David D. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1975
The Phi and G statistics for dichotomous variables are discussed and a Fortran program to compute them is described. Input is to be in card form, output may be printed, punched, or placed on magnetic tape. The punch or tape output is designed to be used as input for the BMD X72 factor analysis program. (Author)

Peer reviewedCramer, Elliot M. – Psychometrika, 1974
A form of Browne's (1967) solution of finding a least squares fit to a specified factor structure is given which does not involve solution of an eigenvalue problem. It suggests the possible existence of a singularity, and a simple modification of Browne's computational procedure is proposed. (Author/RC)

An index of factorial simplicity, employing a quartimax transformational criteria, is developed. This index is both for each row separately and for a factor pattern matrix as a whole. The index varies between zero and one. The problem of calibrating the index is discussed. (Author/RC)

Peer reviewedMcDonald, Roderick P. – Psychometrika, 1975
Gives a set of minimally sufficient axioms to define and distinguish common factor theory, image theory, and component theory and analyzes claims that have been made for image theory as a device for improving factor theory. (Author/RC)

Outlining a cluster procedure which maximizes specific criteria while building scales from binary measures using a sequential, agglomerative, overlapping, non-hierarchic method results in indices giving truer results than exploratory facotr analyses or multidimensional scaling. In a series of eleven figures, patterns within cluster histories…

Peer reviewedKazelskis, Richard – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The Bashaw and Anderson correction for replicated errors in correlation coefficients was applied to the principal components analysis. Notable changes were found in the components in terms of the loadings and subsequently in the percentage of variance accounted for. (Author/JKS)

Peer reviewedJennrich, Robert I. – Psychometrika, 1978
Under mild assumptions, when appropriate elements of a factor loading matrix are specified to be zero, all orthogonally equivalent matrices differ at most by column sign changes. A variety of results are given here for the more complex case in which the specified values are not necessarily zero. (Author/JKS)

Peer reviewedHofmann, Richard J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
A general factor analysis computer algorithm is briefly discussed. The algorithm is highly transportable with minimum limitations on the number of observations. Both singular and non-singular data can be analyzed. (Author/JKS)

Peer reviewedBrennan, Jerry – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
A computer program to compare factor matrices which have at least some variables in common is described. The program calculates both the salient variable similarity index and the congruence coefficient. There are no limits for the number of variables or factors in either matrix. (Author/JKS)

Peer reviewedLee, Jae-Won – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
McQuitty has developed a number of pattern analytic methods that can be computed by hand, but the matrices of associations used in these methods cannot be so readily computed. A simplified but exact method of computing product moment correlations based on Q sort data for McQuitty's methods is described. (Author/JKS)

Peer reviewedKaiser, Henry F.; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
A formula is derived for ascertaining factor scores for the factor analytic method: Little Jiffy, Mark IV. This formula is then employed to derive a second formula giving an exact determination of the generalized Kuder-Richardson estimate of the reliability of scores on a Little Jiffy factor. (Author/JKS)

Intercorrelations among Uzgiris and Hunt's scales for 2 samples of infants were subjected to cluster analysis and factor analysis. The results of these procedures were similar for both samples. Three clusters from the first analysis resembling 3 factors from the second. The findings were also consistent with Uzgiris and Hunt's observations on the…

Three properties of the binormamin criterion for analytic transformation in factor analysis are discussed. Particular reference is made to Carroll's oblimin class of criteria. (Author)
