Finkbeiner, Carl – Psychometrika, 1979
A maximum likelihood method of estimating the parameters of the multiple factor model when data are missing from the sample is presented. A Monte Carlo study compares the method with five heuristic methods of dealing with the problem. The present method shows some advantage in accuracy of estimation. (Author/CTM)

Lee, Sik-Yum – Psychometrika, 1981
Confirmatory factor analysis is considered from a Bayesian viewpoint, in which prior information concerning parameters is incorporated in the analysis. An interactive algorithm is developed to obtain the Bayesian estimates. A numerical example is presented. (Author/JKS)

Gorsuch, Richard L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
Kaiser and Michael reported a formula for factor scores giving an internal consistency reliability and its square root, the domain validity. Using this formula is inappropriate if variables are included which have trival weights rather than salient weights for the factor for which the score is being computed. (Author/RL)

Bolon, Kevin; Barling, Julian – Journal of Genetic Psychology, 1980
Investigates the capacity of the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale for providing specific multidimensional descriptors of depressive behavior. Ideational, physiological and behavioral depression factors were evident in data from 96 normal, white university student volunteers. (Author/RH)

Certo, Samuel C.; Lamb, Steven W. – Journal of Experiential Learning and Simulation, 1980
Results of this study imply substantial instrument bias in the learning styles inventory (LSI) and a modified Likert-scale version of the LSI. (RAO)

Klein, Alice E. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The latest revision of the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT), Primary Battery I, consists of seven subtests combined to yield three subtotal scores and one Total Battery score. A factor analysis was performed on the SAT-I scores of 927 beginning second-grade pupils. The analysis showed two correlated factors. (Author/CTM)

Jackson, David J. – Psychometrika, 1980
The squared multiple correlation of a variable with the remaining variables in a variable set is shown to be a function of the communalities and the squared canonical correlations between the observed variables and common factors. (Author/JKS)

Imperio, Anne M.; Chabot, David R. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1980
Schaeffer's revised version of the Children's Reports of Parental Behavior Inventory was administered to 90 male delinquents. Factor analyses of their reports on both fathers and mothers yielded three factors: Rejection v Acceptance, Psychological Control, and Lax Control. The factor structures were similar in both analyses. (Author)

Nevels, Klaas – Psychometrika, 1979
A simplified procedure for obtaining a weighted procrustes factor analysis rotation is presented in this brief note. Implications are discussed. (See also EJ 180 443). (JKS)

Dziuban, Charles D.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The distributional characteristics of Kaiser's Measure of Sampling Adequacy (MSA) were investigated in sample matrices generated from multivariate normal populations of specified correlation levels. Systematic variation of sample size and number of variables revealed the overall MSA to be most influenced by the number of variables. (Author/JKS)

Cascio, Wayne F. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
The stability of factor structure of an instrument measuring managerial attitudes toward blacks in the working environment was investigated. Results indicated that the factor structure did not remain invariant over administrations to three different samples of managers. The implications for the psychological measurement of attitudes are discussed.…

Bartsch, Thomas W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
One group of subjects responded to an anxiety battery according to their general feelings and then according to their feeling under anxiety-related simulations. A control group received no special instructions. Analysis of variance of factor scores indicated that simulations altered level of state anxiety but not trait anxiety. (Author/JKS)

Carlson, Jerry S.; Wiedl, Karl Heinz – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
Measures of concrete operational thought and the Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices were factor analyzed for a sample of primary students. Results indicated that primarily perceptual abilities are required for solution of the Piagetian tests, although abstract reasoning is involved in the solution of matrices and in conservation of substance…

Pollane, Leonard P.; Schnittjer, Carl J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
Analytical comparisons are made of four commonly available packaged computer programs which perform principal-axis factor analysis. The four programs: Statistical Analysis System, Data-Text, Biomedical Computer Programs, and the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences were compared by running each program with the same data set. Trendafilov, Nickolay T. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1996
An iterative process is proposed for obtaining an orthogonal simple structure solution. At each iteration, a target matrix is constructed such that the relative contributions of the target majorize the original ones, factor by factor. The convergence of the procedure is proven, and the algorithm is illustrated. (SLD)
