Donohue, Joseph C. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1979
There is need for coordination of I&R services into a national network to improve effectiveness and economy, and the Library of Congress should be the coordinating agency for federal resources being spent for I&R. This would assume greater continuity of support and responsiveness to the citizen. (Author/MBR)

Fitzpatrick, Paula; And Others – Child Development, 1996
Studied developmental changes in rhythmic motor skills by observing the hand clapping of 3- through 7-year olds. Found that a variable measuring coordination of children's arms while clapping changed from a nonconstant magnitude in younger clappers to a constant magnitude in older clappers. (BC)

Yee, Penny L.; And Others – Intelligence, 1994
Two studies involving 26 undergraduates and 126 military recruits investigated the presence of a coordination factor in a task with compensatory tracking and anticipatory timing components. Results suggest that the ability to integrate separate components of a complex task draws on a coordination ability but one that is domain specific. (SLD)

Sutskoorn, Margriet M.; Smitsman, Ad W. – Developmental Psychology, 1995
Four experiments investigated 4-, 6-, and 9-month-old infants' ability to perceive whether the width relationship between a block and the opening of a box specified passing through or support. Found that six- and nine-month olds looked significantly longer than four-month olds when a block wider than a box opening passed through this opening. (MDM)

Chiarenza, Giuseppe Augusto – American Journal on Mental Retardation, 1993
This analysis of nine young adult males with Down's syndrome found that subjects had great difficulty in completing a skilled motor-perceptual task. Compared to controls, they were much slower, less accurate, and achieved fewer target performances. These behavioral patterns were associated with movement-related brain macropotentials altered in…

Thelen, Esther; And Others – Child Development, 1993
Weekly observations of 4 infants in a standard arm-extended reaching task demonstrated that the infants first reached at ages ranging from 12 to 22 weeks. Results suggest that the infant central nervous system does not contain programs that detail hand trajectory or muscle activation patterns; rather, these patterns are the consequence of the…

Richards, John E.; Holley, Felecia B. – Developmental Psychology, 1999
Studied effect of attention on smooth pursuit and saccadic tracking in infants at 8, 14, 20, and 26 weeks old. Found an increase across age in overall tracking, gain of smooth-pursuit eye movements, and increased amplitude of compensatory saccades at faster tracking speeds. Findings show that development of smooth pursuit, targeted saccadic eye…

Heath, M.; Rival, C. – Brain and Cognition, 2005
In this investigation participants formulated a grip aperture (GA) consistent with the size of an object embedded within a Muller-Lyer (ML) figure prior to initiating visually guided grasping movements. The accuracy of the grasping response was emphasized to determine whether or not the visuomotor system might resolve the premovement bias in GA…
