Krus, David J.; Weiss, David J. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1976
Results of empirical comparisons of an inferential model of order analysis with factor analytic models were reported for two sets of data. On the prestructured data set both order and factor analytic models returned its dimensions of length, width and height, but on the random data set the factor analytic models indicated the presence of…

Hawes, Douglass K. – Journal of Leisure Research, 1978
In a nationwide survey of 1,000 households, the male and female heads-of-households were asked to evaluate the importance of each of 32 satisfaction statements in relation to each of three of their favorite leisure-time pursuits, and the results are reported. (DS)

Lunneborg, Patricia W. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1978
Published and unpublished research with the Vocational Interest Inventory based on Anne Roe's interest scheme supported separating the General Cultural area out of the RIASEC framework. It emerged as a distinct fusion of certain verbal-artistic and social tendencies. (Author)

Mays, Robert – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
A FORTRAN program for clustering variables using the alpha coefficient of reliability is described. For batch operation, a rule for stopping the agglomerative precedure is available. The conversational version of the program allows the user to intervene in the process in order to test the final solution for sensitivity to changes. (Author/JKS)

Lunneborg, Clifford E.; Lunneborg, Patricia W. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1978
To find evidence of generalizability of four interest factors established for tests within the Roe-Holland framework, factor scores derived from a Vocational Interest Inventory grounded in Roe's system were correlated with Strong-Campbell Occupational scale scores. For this sample of 300 counseling clients, a majority of the hypothesized relations…

Games, Paul A. – American Educational Research Journal, 1978
Marascuilo's and Levin's use of the term "nesting" to describe a statistical model, and application of the Scheffe tests on restricted sets of contrasts, is opposed. Changing the model during analysis of a complex set of data is both necessary and desirable. (Author/CP)

Crawford, Charles B.; DeFries, J. C. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1978
The application of component analysis to phenotypic, genetic, and environmental correlation matrices is discussed. Formulas for computation of component scores and the interpretation of factors is discussed. An example is presented. (Author/JKS)

Greene, Vernon L. – Psychometrika, 1978
The relationships among Rao's canonical factor analysis, Kaiser and Coffrey's alpha factor analysis, and Cronbach's alpha coefficient are discussed. Implications for test reliability and validity are noted. (JKS)

Hakstian, A. Ralph; And Others – Psychometrika, 1977
A general formulation for obtaining conditionally unbiased, univocal common-factor score estimates that have maximum validity for the true orthogonal factor scores is presented. Other similar efforts described in the literature are discussed. (Author/JKS)

Green, Samual B.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
Confusion in the literature between the concepts of internal consistency and homogeneity has led to a misuse of coefficient alpha as an index of item homogeneity. This misuse is discussed and several indices of item homogeneity derived from the model of common factor analysis are offered as alternatives. (Author/JKS)

Skakun, Ernest N.; And Others – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1976
An empirical sampling distribution of the statistic average trace (E'E) for various orders of A matrices was developed through a Monte Carlo approach. A method is presented which can be used as a guideline in determining whether factor structures obtained from two data sets are congruent. (Author/DEP)

Green, Bert F., Jr. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1977
Interpretation of multivariate models requires knowing how much the fit of the model is impaired by changes in the parameters. The relation of parameter change to loss of goodness of fit can be called parameter sensitivity. Formulas are presented for assessing the sensitivity of multiple regression and principal component weights. (Author/JKS)

Morgan, Glen D.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1988
Ex-smokers reported the frequencies of specific behaviors from their spouses, families, and friends, via the Social Interaction Questionnaire, at two, three, and eight weeks following cessation from smoking. Compared with recidivists, abstainers reported more helping behaviors from friends throughout the maintenance period. The pattern of friends'…

Akaike, Hirotugu – Psychometrika, 1987
The Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) was introduced to extend the method of maximum likelihood to the multimodel situation. Use of the AIC in factor analysis is interesting when it is viewed as the choice of a Bayesian model; thus, wider applications of AIC are possible. (Author/GDC)

Hojat, Mohammadreza; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
The underlying structure of ratings of clinical competence was investigated. The instrument consisted of 33 statements on clinical behavior filled out by directors of medical education programs at postgraduate training institutions. It was concluded that ratings of clinical competence represent a multidimensional construct involving at least three…
