Skakun, Ernest N.; And Others – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1976
An empirical sampling distribution of the statistic average trace (E'E) for various orders of A matrices was developed through a Monte Carlo approach. A method is presented which can be used as a guideline in determining whether factor structures obtained from two data sets are congruent. (Author/DEP)

Green, Bert F., Jr. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1977
Interpretation of multivariate models requires knowing how much the fit of the model is impaired by changes in the parameters. The relation of parameter change to loss of goodness of fit can be called parameter sensitivity. Formulas are presented for assessing the sensitivity of multiple regression and principal component weights. (Author/JKS)

Morgan, Glen D.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1988
Ex-smokers reported the frequencies of specific behaviors from their spouses, families, and friends, via the Social Interaction Questionnaire, at two, three, and eight weeks following cessation from smoking. Compared with recidivists, abstainers reported more helping behaviors from friends throughout the maintenance period. The pattern of friends'…

Akaike, Hirotugu – Psychometrika, 1987
The Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) was introduced to extend the method of maximum likelihood to the multimodel situation. Use of the AIC in factor analysis is interesting when it is viewed as the choice of a Bayesian model; thus, wider applications of AIC are possible. (Author/GDC)

Hojat, Mohammadreza; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
The underlying structure of ratings of clinical competence was investigated. The instrument consisted of 33 statements on clinical behavior filled out by directors of medical education programs at postgraduate training institutions. It was concluded that ratings of clinical competence represent a multidimensional construct involving at least three…

Widaman, Keith F.; And Others – American Journal of Mental Deficiency, 1987
The dimensional structure of adaptive behavior of mildly, moderately, and severely mentally retarded people was investigated using item and parcel factor analyses of the Client Development Evaluation Report with about 10,000 subjects. A stable six-factor structure of adaptive behavior was identified. (Author/DB)

Rindskopf, David – Psychometrika, 1984
Using LISREL, the only types of constraints allowed are fixing parameters at a constant value and constraining parameters to be equal. In this paper, two new concepts ("phantom" and "imaginary" latent variables) are introduced which allow fairly general equality and inequality constraints on factor loadings and structural model…

Allen, Stuart J.; Hubbard, Raymond – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1986
In order to make parallel analysis more accessible to researchers employing principal component techniques, regression equations are presented for the logarithms of the latent roots of random data correlation matrices with unities on the diagonal. (Author/LMO)

Fowler, Patrick C. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1986
Two confirmatory maximum likelihood factor analytic models of the Personality Research Form-E are presented and discussed for the men's and women's standardization data. Overall, the patterns of correlations within each data matrix are highly similar, but the factor patterns, factor intercorrelations, as well as the error variances, do differ.…

Thompson, William E.; Dodder, Richard A. – Adolescence, 1986
All seven variables of containment theory were operationalized for questionnaires. Data were collected from 677 adolescents in a variety of high schools and correctional institutions, and divided into categories by race and sex. Factor analysis indicated that the structure of the relationships among the seven containment variables and delinquency…

Fowler, Patrick C. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Presents a five-factor, structural model of the Personality Research Form-E for 140 university undergraduates. All factors demonstrated an excellent level of similarity to those previously reported for other forms of the PRF, as well as to the conceptual scheme developed by Jackson (1974). (Author/JAC)

O'Grady, Kevin E. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1983
Analyzed the intercorrelations among the 11 subtests of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R) in the nine age groups in the normative sample. Results suggested that the factor structure underlying the WAIS-R is complex and that a large proportion of WAIS-R performance can be explained by a general intellectual factor. (LLL)

Gellen, Murray I.; Hoffman, Roy A. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1984
Factor analyzed the item responses comprising each of the five external dimensions and the three internal dimensions of the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale. The results indicated that seven of the eight subscales are essentially single-factor scales. Implications for counseling are discussed. (Author)

Mulaik, Stanley A. – Psychometrika, 1976
Discusses Guttman's index of indeterminacy in light of alternative solutions which are equally likely to be correct and alternative solutions for the factor which are not equally likely to be chosen. Offers index which measures a different aspect of the same indeterminacy problem. (ROF)

Hakstian, A. Ralph – Psychometrika, 1976
Examples are presented in which it is either necessary or desirable to transform two sets of orthogonal axes to simple structure positions by means of the same transformation matrix. A solution is outlined which represents a two-matrix extension of the general "orthomax" orthogonal rotation criterion. (Author/RC)
