Peer reviewedTokar, David M.; Fischer, Ann R. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1998
When the NEO Five-Factor Inventory and the Self-Directed Search were completed by 490 workers, there were strong links between Holland personality types and Prediger's dimensions of data/ideas and things/people. Links were somewhat different for men and women in terms of magnitude and pattern. Dimensions were strongly associated with the…
Descriptors: Factor Analysis, Interest Inventories, Personality Measures, Personality Theories
Peer reviewedGrice, James W.; Harris, Richard J. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1998
An alternative strategy for computing factor scores was introduced and compared to a popular scoring procedure. The new strategy, which involves unit-weighted composites of standardized items with salient factor score coefficients, is shown superior to the common method. Implications of findings are discussed. (SLD)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Factor Analysis, Factor Structure, Regression (Statistics)
Peer reviewedCliff, Norman; Caruso, John C. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1998
Examines the factor structure of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised across nine age groups using several methods of factor analysis, including reliable component analysis (RCA). Factor structure is discussed, and the usefulness of the RCA method is demonstrated. (SLD)

Peer reviewedWang, Jichuan; Siegal, Harvey A.; Falck, Russell S.; Carlson, Robert G. – Structural Equation Modeling, 2001
Used nine different confirmatory factor analysis models to test the factorial structure of Rosenberg's (M. Rosenberg, 1965) self-esteem scale with a sample of 430 crack-cocaine users. Results partly support earlier research to show a single global self-esteem factor underlying responses to the Rosenberg scale, method effects associated with item…

Peer reviewedVidal-Brown, Sherry A.; Thompson, Bruce – Journal of Career Assessment, 2001
The Career Assessment Diagnostic Inventory evaluates six career indecision factors: family conflict, emotional independence, decision-making anxiety, identity development, career information, and career self-efficacy. Factor analysis and convergent validity results of scores of 539 students supported the instrument's validity. (SK)
Descriptors: Career Choice, Decision Making, Diagnostic Tests, Factor Analysis
Peer reviewedThompson, Bruce; Daniel, Larry G. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1996
Expectations for reporting factor analysis results as part of construct validation are explored in the context of emerging views of measurement validity. Desired practices are discussed for both exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. A short computer program for conducting parallel analysis is included. (Author/SLD)

Peer reviewedHill, Roger B.; Petty, Gregory C. – Journal of Vocational Education Research, 1995
The Occupational Work Ethic Inventory was completed by 1,151 workers from a broad spectrum of occupations (62.6%). Factor analysis yielded four constructs that define attributes measured by the instrument: interpersonal skills, initiative, dependability, and a combination of the negative items on the inventory. (SK)

Torres-Rivera, Edil; Wilbur, Michael P.; Maddux, Cleborne D.; Smaby, Marlowe H.; Phan, Loan T.; Roberts-Wilbur, Janice – Counselor Education and Supervision, 2002
Presents an exploratory factor analysis of the scores of 248 counselors-in-training on the Counselor Skills Personal Development Rating Form (CSPD-RF). Authors of the test hypothesized that the CPSD-RF measured 2 factors, personal development and skills development. Factor analysis revealed 4 factors accounting for 58.4% of the total variance,…
Descriptors: Construct Validity, Counselor Training, Factor Analysis, Individual Development
Peer reviewedHerting, Jerald R.; Costner, Herbert L. – Structural Equation Modeling, 2000
Examines some positions in various arguments related to the proper number of factors and proper number of steps when using structural equation models. Defines the issue in estimating structural equation models as a problem of specifying a model appropriately based on theoretical concerns and then diagnosing ills in the model as well as possible.…

Peer reviewedLowe, Patricia A.; Reynolds, Cecil R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2000
Performed exploratory factor analysis of the responses of 458 older adults, aged 60 to 100 years, to the Adult Manifest Anxiety Scale-Elderly Version (based on a scale by J. Taylor, 1953). Found a three-factor structure of anxiety consistent with current theories of anxiety that supports the construct validity of the measure. (SLD)
Descriptors: Anxiety, Construct Validity, Factor Analysis, Factor Structure
Peer reviewedBernaards A., Coen; Sijtsma, Klaas – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1999
Used simulation to study the problem of missing item responses in tests and questionnaires when factor analysis is used to study the structure of the items. Factor loadings based on the EM algorithm best approximated the loading structure, with imputation of the mean per person across the scores for that person being the best alternative. (SLD)

Peer reviewedMaslovaty, Nava; Marshall, Anne E.; Alkin, Marvin C. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2001
Examined the facet theory (FT) of L. Gutman and compared it to factor analysis (FA) in the context of two research studies, one of desirable student traits perceived by 203 Israeli teachers and the other of the perceptions of 92 Israeli teachers regarding teacher professionalism. By using FT and FA, the multidimensional theory and structural…

Peer reviewedCokley, Kevin O.; Helm, Katherine – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2001
Tests the validity of scores on the Multidimensional Inventory of Black Identity (MIBI) using confirmatory factor analysis and correlations. Results show partial support for construct validity. An item analysis was performed to identify problematic items. Discusses implications for racial identity research. (Contains 54 references and 2 tables.)…

Peer reviewedJohnson, William L.; Mauzey, Edward; Johnson, Annabel M.; Murphy, Stanley D.; Zimmerman, Kurt J. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2001
Examines the higher order structure of Form G of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. A third order component analysis of a sample (N=926) found two higher order components. This higher order analysis contributes to the research literature pertaining to the generalized structure of the personality measure. (Contains 44 references and 1 table.) (GCP)

Stephanie Ann Contrucci Kuhn – ProQuest LLC, 2004
Behaviors that are appropriate, inappropriate, or a combination of both can be linked together in a behavior chain. When the contingencies for one response change (e.g., reinforcement is withheld for the last response in the chain; the last response is reinforced even if it occurs without the other responses in the chain) or the environmental…
