Carey, John C.; And Others – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1988
Attempted to verify multidimensional nature and item composition of Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) subscales through factor analysis. IRI responses from 365 female clinical dieticians and dietetic interns supported contention that IRI subscales measure four discernibly different empathy dimensions. (NB)

Knoff, Howard M.; And Others – Journal of School Psychology, 1995
Investigates the behavior and characteristics of effective consultants as perceived by a large sample of classroom teachers to determine their perceptions of the consultants' effectiveness, to compare the factor structure of the scale with previous research, and to investigate how the teachers' professional and demographic characteristics were…

Buley, Jerry L. – Human Communication Research, 1995
States that attacks by communication scholars have cast doubt on the validity of exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Tests EFA's ability to produce results that replicate known dimensions in a data set. Concludes that EFA should be viewed with cautious optimism and be evaluated according to the findings of this and similar studies. (PA)

Lanning, Wayne, L.; And Others – Counselor Education and Supervision, 1994
Describes investigation examining factor structure of Supervisor Emphasis Rating Form (SERF). Factor analysis of SERF suggests presence of two underlying factors corresponding to supervisors' focus on professional behavior and process skills. Suggests revision of SERF to accommodate need for information regarding congruence between supervisor…

Takane, Yoshio; And Others – Psychometrika, 1995
A model is proposed in which different sets of linear constraints are imposed on different dimensions in component analysis and classical multidimensional scaling frameworks. An algorithm is presented for fitting the model to the data by least squares. Examples demonstrate the method. (SLD)

Bessant, Kenneth C. – Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, 1995
Factor analysis of a version of the Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale (MARS) and the Study Process Questionnaire (SPQ) given to (n=173) introductory statistics students found 6 factors: general evaluation anxiety, everyday numerical anxiety, passive observation anxiety, performance anxiety, mathematics test anxiety, and problem-solving anxiety. (39…

Browne, Michael W. – Psychometrika, 1992
Structural models that yield circumplex inequality patterns are reviewed, focusing on a model developed by T. W. Anderson (1960). A modification is proposed to this model to allow for negative correlations. This model may be reparameterized as a factor analysis model with nonlinear constraints on the factor loadings. (SLD)

Meulman, Jacqueline J. – Psychometrika, 1992
The distance approach to nonlinear multivariate analysis proposed by J. J. Meulman (1986) is reviewed. Several generalizations are discussed by combining features from the conventional multivariate analysis approach, which seeks weighted sums of variables, with the alternative approach, which seeks to fit distances. (SLD)

Race, Kathryn E. H.; Planek, Thomas W. – Evaluation Review, 1992
A recent Delphi study on recreational boating safety priorities of 94 safety experts is used to illustrate the utility of applying the modified scree test to Delphi data. The scree test does not oversimplify decisions and can be applied to fairly complicated data. (SLD)

Culnan, Mary J.; And Others – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1990
Describes a study that was designed to document through citation analysis the intellectual development of research on organizations for the years 1972-84. Organizational theory and organizational behavior are highlighted, the use of author cocitation analysis is explained, and future research is suggested. (17 references) (LRW)

Dolan, Conor; Bechger, Timo; Molenaar, Peter – Structural Equation Modeling, 1999
Considers models incorporating principal components from the perspectives of structural-equation modeling. These models include the following: (1) the principal-component analysis of patterned matrices; (2) multiple analysis of variance based on principal components; and (3) multigroup principal-components analysis. Discusses fitting these models…

Tokar, David M.; Fischer, Ann R.; Snell, Andrea F.; Harik-Williams, Nahla – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1999
Results of confirmatory and exploratory analyses of 485 nonstudent adults' (N=485) responses to the NEO Five-Factor Inventory indicate that a six-factor model best fit the data. Results show some empirical justification for using the NEO Five-Factor Inventory to assess clients' and research participants' core personality traits. (Author/MKA)

Forsterlee, Robert; Ho, Robert – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1999
Studied the factor structure of the Need for Cognition Scale (NFC) (J. Cohen, E. Scotland, and D. Wolfe, 1955) (short form) with samples of 510 and 697 Australian adults. Results support the use of the short version of the NFC with Australian samples. (SLD)

Kranzler, John H.; Keith, Timothy Z. – School Psychology Review, 1999
Uses confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to address unresolved issues concerning the structure of the Cognitive Assessment System, a test of intelligence based upon the planning, attention, and simultaneous-successive (PASS) processes theory of human cognition. Results reveal that the CFA of the standardization data do not support use of the CAS…

Kazelskis, Richard – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1998
The factor structure of three commonly used measures of mathematics anxiety was examined using a sample of 323 undergraduates in an algebra class. Six oblique factors were identified, but results did not support the existence of a single common dimension of mathematics anxiety as represented by the six factors. (SLD)
