Peer reviewedWatts, Fraser N.; Everitt, Brian S. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1980
The pattern of correlations between subtests suggests that several of the aptitudes are of doubtful validity. In no case was it possible to extract more than three adequately determined factors. (Author)
Descriptors: Aptitude Tests, Factor Analysis, Predictive Measurement, Test Construction
Peer reviewedDeLeeuw, Jan; Kroonenberg, Peter M. – Psychometrika, 1980
A new method to estimate the parameters of Tucker's three mode principal component model is discussed, and the convergence properties of the alternating least squares algorithm to solve the estimation problem are considered. An example is presented. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Algorithms, Factor Analysis, Least Squares Statistics, Measurement
Peer reviewedNewman, Ian M.; DiSalvo, Vincent S. – Journal of School Health, 1980
The values of computer-based content analysis techniques and the application of a variety of analytical methods in areas related to health education are discussed. (JD)
Descriptors: Behavioral Science Research, Computers, Content Analysis, Factor Analysis
Peer reviewedBentler, P. M.; Woodward, Arthur J. – Psychometrika, 1980
A chain of lower bound inequalities leading to the greatest lower bound to reliability is established for the internal consistency of a composite of unit-weighted scores (such as a test). Algorithms for obtaining various reliability coefficients are presented. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Factor Analysis, Item Analysis, Measurement Techniques, Test Construction
Peer reviewedWoehlke, Paula; Ohara, Takeshi – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
To assess the stability of the factor structure of the Instructional Improvement Questionnaire (IIQ), factor analyses were run for 1973, 1974, and 1975 results, partialling out three variables: expected grade, percent taking the course as an elective, and student's year. The factors were stable over the three years. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Factor Analysis, Factor Structure, Questionnaires, Student Evaluation of Teacher Performance
Peer reviewedEverett, James E.; Entrekin, Leland V. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1980
Factors extracted from identical items administered to similar but not identical samples should be comparable to be used as summary measures. Correlation between duplicate factor scores calculated using weights from identical factor analyses of two samples provides a comparability coefficient, a more direct measure than the congruence coefficient.…
Descriptors: Attitude Measures, Correlation, Factor Analysis, Faculty
Peer reviewedRoberts, William L. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1979
A descriptive study of factors in the lifestyle of 50 couples married an average of 55.5 years and an average age of 79 years provided data for this report. Independence, commitment, companionship, and qualities of caring were significant elements in these long-lasting marriages. (Author)
Descriptors: Factor Analysis, Family Attitudes, Interpersonal Relationship, Marital Status
Peer reviewedWeeks, David G. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1980
A reanalysis of a structural equation model of the development of intellectual abilities is presented. The original model emphasized four different constructs of intelligence; the reanalysis emphasized a general factor model. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Elementary School Students, Factor Analysis, Intellectual Development, Longitudinal Studies
Peer reviewedMunro, D. – Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, 1979
This study uses a multifactorial model of locus of control to examine the attribution of causality in Black and White students in Zambia and Zimbabwe-Rhodesia. (Author/MC)
Descriptors: Attribution Theory, Blacks, Cross Cultural Studies, Factor Analysis
Peer reviewedDavison, Mark L.; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1978
Multidimensional scaling and factor analysis were applied to Rest's objective test of Kohlbergian moral development. The responses of 160 junior high, senior high, college undergraduate, and graduate students were analyzed in order to investigate whether stage and item scores displayed a hierarchial sequential structure. (Author/SS)
Descriptors: Adults, Developmental Stages, Factor Analysis, Moral Development
Peer reviewedSawyer, Robert N.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
High intercorrelations among the six subtests of the Pictorial Test of Intelligence raise questions regarding the construct validity of the instrument. A factor analysis was performed. A single factor with stable factor loadings emerged. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Correlation, Factor Analysis, Intelligence Tests, Matrices
Peer reviewedSpanier, Graham B.; Glick, Paul C. – Journal of Divorce, 1980
Presents a demographic analysis of the paths to remarriage--the extent and timing of remarriage, social factors associated with remarriage, and the impact of the event which preceded remarriage (divorce or widowhood). (Author)
Descriptors: Adults, Demography, Divorce, Factor Analysis
Peer reviewedHickey, Tom; And Others – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1978
The factor analytic model of the practitioner-oriented "Opinions about People" was tested with a population of gerontological practitioners. An analysis eliminated nine items not warranting inclusion in the instrument, redistributed the factors, and brought out a completely new factor. (Author)
Descriptors: Age, Counselor Attitudes, Factor Analysis, Gerontology
Peer reviewedKeren, Gideon; Lewis, Charles – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The importance of measuring the size of an effect for fixed effects factorial analysis of variance designs is emphasized. Technical issues in such measurement are considered and examples are provided. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Correlation, Factor Analysis, Hypothesis Testing
Peer reviewedMorris, John D. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
Several advantages to the use of different kinds of factor scores as independent variables in a multiple regression equation are reported. A computer program is presented which will calculate a regression equation using a variety of factor scores. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Computer Programs, Factor Analysis, Multiple Regression Analysis, Program Descriptions
