Bytheway, William R. – Journal of Marriage and the Family, 1981
Analyzed data of marriages in England and Wales in 1976 to determine patterns of variation with age of age differences for males and females in marriage. Data indicated both sexes are more likely to marry an older person at the age of 50 than at the age of 30. (Author/RC)

Joiner, Carl; And Others – Journal of Nursing Administration, 1982
The authors discuss their examination of clinical nursing jobs in various areas of one hospital and compare them by examining their motivational characteristics. The study identifies the clinical nursing jobs that should be enriched to increase their motivational potential. (Author/CT)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Data Collection, Job Analysis, Job Enrichment

Salkever, David S. – Journal of Human Resources, 1982
This paper estimates the influence on working mothers' employment status of children's health problems. Effects are estimated for several different types of families, various groups of health problems, and differing degrees of problem severity. (CT)
Descriptors: Children, Data Analysis, Data Collection, Disabilities

Sklar, Michael G. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1980
It has long been popular to utilize the least squares estimation procedure for fitting the multiple linear regression model to observed data. In this paper, two useful alternatives to least squares estimation in exploratory data analysis are examined: least absolute value estimation and Chebychev estimation. (Author/JKS)

Klastorin, T. D. – Psychometrika, 1980
The problem of objectively comparing two independently determined partitions of N objects or variables is discussed. A similarity measure based on the simple matching coefficient is defined and related to previously suggested measures. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Correlation, Data Analysis, Judges, Mathematical Formulas

Olejnik, Stephen F.; Porter, Andrew C. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1981
The evaluation of competing analysis strategies based on estimator bias and variance is demonstrated using gains in standard scores and analysis of covariance procedures for quasi-experiments conforming to the fan-spread hypothesis. The findings do not lead to a uniform recommendation of either approach. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Bias, Data Analysis, Evaluation, Hypothesis Testing
Schlenker, Jon A. – Community College Social Science Journal, 1980
Describes the use of a study of cemetery headstones to give students a feeling for their community's social history. Looks at the kinds of information that can be gathered from the markers about the dead people and ways of analyzing the data. Presents an outline of project procedures. (AYC)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Data Collection, Local History, Postsecondary Education

Wilkinson, R.K. – Economics, 1980
Discusses the meaning and purpose of data-response questions in teaching economics on the secondary school level. Makes the case for using data-response material in the classroom and presents guidelines for using the material in ways which are meaningful to students. (Author/DB)
Descriptors: Concept Formation, Data Analysis, Economic Factors, Economics Education

Riding, R. J.; Willets, D. – Educational Studies, 1980
Describes and presents findings from an educational research study in which 100 students in primary schools were tested with regard to individual variation which could be detected when the children viewed a white disc on a dark background which momentarily disappeared. Findings regarding the smallest dark interval for which the disk was reported…

Heinrichs, E. H. – Journal of the American College Health Association, 1980
Demographic data from death certificates of suicides of college-age persons in South Dakota are compared with those of students in the same age group. Only a few differences between students and nonstudents occur. (JMF)

Ramsay, J. O. – Psychometrika, 1980
In studies involving judgments of similarity or dissimilarity, a variety of other variables may also be measured. In such cases, there are important advantages to joint analyses of the dissimilarity and collateral variables. A variety of models are described for relating these and algorithms are described for fitting these to data. (Author/JKS)

Epstein, Seymour – American Psychologist, 1980
Discusses ways in which psychological researchers can aggregate behavior over situations and occasions, thereby reducing variations that negatively affect replicability. (MK)
Descriptors: Behavior, Data, Data Analysis, Literature Reviews
Rusnell, Dale – New Directions for Continuing Education, 1979
The costs of evaluation are affected by program characteristics and the extent to which it is important to be confident about proof and causality. They are also affected by decisions about issues, resources, evidence, data gathering, data analysis, and reporting. (CT)
Descriptors: Cost Effectiveness, Data Analysis, Data Collection, Program Costs
Talmage, Harriet – Curriculum Review, 1981
This article is designed to help textbook selection committees and personnel make better choices of instructional materials. It outlines the types of information selectors will need about their own districts' curriculum and characteristics and presents a chart for design analysis of this data which can be used in textbook evaluation. (SJL)
Descriptors: Charts, Data Analysis, Evaluation Methods, Guidelines
Hutson, Barbara A.; Liebermann, Jo – Adult Literacy and Basic Education, 1980
Measures of syntactic knowledge and reading achievement were obtained for 41 students in an adult basic education center. Adults reading at or below fourth-grade level showed significantly less knowledge of syntax than adults at higher levels, even though the language test involved neither reading nor writing. (Author/CT)
