Toenjes, Carol M.; Borgen, Fred H. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1974
Holland's hexagonal model for six occupational groups was tested with data on estimated occupational rewards. Data on rated occupational reward characteristics were available for 148 occupations. Although the hexagonal shape was distorted, the groups were arrayed in the order postualted by Holland. (Author)

Miller, M. Mark – 1977
This paper outlines the use of confirmatory factor analytic techniques to assess the reliability of television program checklists as indicators of television exposure, to estimate the stability of television exposure over time, and to detect patterns of television content preference. A causal model incorporating these three properties was…

Pankratz, Roger; Harryman, Eugene – 1978
This longitudinal study of beginning teachers in Kentucky yields a number of characteristics useful in identifying persons most likely to obtain and retain teaching positions in secondary education. The Western Kentucky University Teacher Preparation Evaluation Program (TPEP), begun in 1971, follows careers of elementary and secondary school…

Stricker, Lawrence J. – 1976
This study determines major dimensions of social stratification for whites and blacks and explores the existence of distinct social classes. It is based on a survey conducted on 225 white and 206 black household heads in Toledo, Ohio, using a highly structured interview that included variables reflecting major theoretical dimensions of…

Crouch, Ben M. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1975
Factor analysis of responses of funeral directors to work orientation items is interpreted first as specifying major orientational themes and second as to how well the theoretical value components of professionalism and a business orientation hold together empirically. (Author)

Hakstian, A. Ralph; Abell, Robert A. – Psychometrika, 1974
Four prominent oblique transformation techniques--promax, the Harris-Kaiser procedure, biquartimin, and direct oblimin--are examined and compared. Additionally, two newly developed procedures are presented and included in the comparisons. (Author/RC)

Schutz, Howard G.; Rucker, Margaret H. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1975
Data from 2-, 3-, 6-, and 7-point rating scales were analyzed to determine whether scale length affected response patterns. Results indicate that data configurations are relatively invariant with changes in number of scale points. (Author)

Kaufman, Alan S. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1975
The factor structure in this study was remarkably consistent across the age range, with three factors emerging for each group: Verbal Comprehension, Perceptual Organization, and Freedom from Distractibility. The results of the study are discussed in terms of their clinical applications, particularly interpretation of WISC-R profiles. (Author)

Stewart, Robert A. C. – Social Behavior and Personality, 1974
Because of the still imperfectly understood basic factor structure of the MMPI, a Principal Components Analysis and Varimax Rotation was conducted on the MMPI item responses of 50 female undergraduate students of Education at Massey University. Eight factors were extracted. (Author)

Kirkpatrick, Dwight R.; Berg, Alan J. – 1981
Previous studies on common fears have been vague and have not met requirements for using factor analysis. To avoid some of these problems, a broader age range and a separate analysis of males and females were designed for a sample of 545 individuals, ages 15-89, who responded to 133 fear-scale items. "Death of a loved one" was the greatest fear…

Takane, Yoshio – 1980
A maximum likelihood estimation procedure is developed for the simple and the weighted additive models. The data are assumed to be taken by either one of the following methods: (1) categorical ratings--the subject is asked to rate a set of stimuli with respect to an attribute of the stimuli on rating scales with a relatively few observation…
