Loo, Chalsa M. – Journal of Population, 1979
Behavior of preschoolers was studied with respect to five factors: verbally-abusive interaction, activity-toy play, avoidance, negative affect-agression, and desire-to-leave-a-crowded-room. Under high density conditions, more girls exhibited reduced activity level and toy involvement, along with increased negative feelings, than boys. (MA)

Lawson, M. J.; Jarman, R. F. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1977
The assumptions of Jensen's theory of Level 1 ability are examined in the light of recent research on memory. Experimental studies of organization in both serial and free recall, as well as factor analytic investigations of sequential memory indicate that the current theory requires revision in order to accommodate recent findings. Johnstone, James N. – Comparative Education Review, 1977
Presents an attempt to identify the main dimensions of an educational system. These dimensions in turn allow the identification of those variables which are most useful in describing and differentiating between systems for purposes of research, planning, etc. (Author/RK)

Downs, Cal W.; Hazen, Michael D. – Journal of Business Communication, 1977
Recounts a study designed to test the hypothesis that communication satisfaction is multidimensional rather than unidimensional and to determine how individual dimensions relate to global job satisfaction. Notes research findings and implications for organizational functioning. (MH)

Donders, Jacques – Assessment, 1997
The criterion validity of the factor index scores of the third edition of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-III) was evaluated in a sample of 88 children with traumatic head injury. Only the Perceptual Organization and Processing Speed scores demonstrated acceptable sensitivity to injury severity for evaluation use. (SLD)

Merrell, Kenneth W.; Crowley, Susan L.; Walters, Amy S. – Psychology in the Schools, 1997
Details the development of a new objective self-report instrument--the Internalizing Symptoms Scale for Children (ISSC)--for assessing the broad domain of internalizing symptomatology in children. Discusses results of a factor analysis and describes potential uses of the ISSC. Implications for future assessment in child psychopathology are…

Johnson, William L.; Johnson, Annabel M.; Gott, Richard; Zimmerman, Kurt – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
The factor structure of the Charles F. Kettering Climate Scale, a measure of educational environment, was studied with 351 junior high school students on 2 school campuses. Primary and secondary factor structures are reported, as are the Cronbach alpha reliability measures for scores on the second-order structures. (SLD)

Rupley, William H.; Willson, Victor L. – Reading and Writing: An Interdisciplinary Journal, 1996
Examines background knowledge and strategy knowledge from a broad view to better understand how they contribute to elementary-age students' reading comprehension of both narrative and expository texts. Indicates that background knowledge specific to the content of the text being read begins to diminish in importance at about grade 4, when strategy…

Donders, Jacques – Psychological Assessment, 1996
Representative profile subtypes were examined in the standardization sample (2200 children) of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Third Edition (WISC-III). Two-stage cluster analysis identified five reliable subtypes. A method for determining the relative uniqueness of clinically obtained WISC-III factor index score patterns is…

Reiser, Mark – Psychometrika, 1996
Using the item response model as developed on the multinomial distribution, asymptotic variances are obtained for residuals with response patterns and first- and second-order marginal frequencies of manifest variables. A limited-information test of fit is developed by using residuals defined for the first- and second-order marginals. (Author/SLD)

Hillman, Jennifer L.; Stricker, George – Canadian Journal on Aging, 1996
Factor analysis of scores of 458 college students on the Aging Sexuality Knowledge and Attitude Scale revealed a two-factor structure. Religious affiliation and ethnicity uniquely predicted permissive/restrictive attitudes. Death anxiety and salience of elderly sexuality uniquely predicted empathic/indifferent attitudes. Students of different ages…
