Peer reviewedInglis, James; Lawson, J. S. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Investigated nature of a learning disability index (LDI) for the objective assessment of verbal-nonverbal patterns of intellectual deficit on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised using Factor II score coefficients derived from an unrotated principal components analysis of normative data, and average scaled scores. The…

Peer reviewedMarlowe, Herbert A., Jr. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1986
A multidimensional model of social intelligence was empirically derived. Through the use of factor analytic techniques, five domains of social intelligence were identified and found to be independent of verbal and abstract intelligence. (Author/LMO)

Peer reviewedNoma, Elliot – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1984
Argues that co-citation methods combine citing behavior of authors by assuming they share common view of scientific literature which affects assessments of dimensionality and clustering of articles. Co-citation matrices, effects of shared point-of-view assumption, and co-citation compared with bibliographic coupling and centroid scaling are…

Peer reviewedBoodoo, Gwyneth M.; Garlinghouse, Patricia – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
Three essay questions were administered to junior education major college students. Factor analysis of the ratings showed that content played a large role in the students' responses, yielding dominant first order factors. Generalizability theory, used to examine the reliability of students' ratings, showed the need for more raters and questions.…

Peer reviewedPellino, Glenn R.; And Others – Research in Higher Education, 1984
Faculty and administrators responded to 32 activity statements related to "scholarship" on a frequency basis and on the characteristics of the role. Factor analysis revealed six dimensions of scholarship-professional activity, research (publishing), teaching service, artistic endeavor, and "engagement with the novel." (Author/MLW)

Peer reviewedBrokken, Frank B. – Psychometrika, 1983
Procedures for assessing the invariance of factors across data sets often use the least squares criterion, which appears to be too restrictive. Tucker's coefficient of congruence is proposed as an alternative. A method that maximizes the sum of the coefficients of congruence between two matrices of loadings is presented. (Author/JKS)

Peer reviewedMarsh, Herbert W.; Hocevar, Dennis – American Educational Research Journal, 1984
A multitrait-multimethod (MTMM) matrix was formed in which nine evaluation dimensions were the multiple traits, and different offerings of the same course were the multiple methods. Findings from the MTMM analysis and confirmatory factor analysis provide strong evidence for the multidimensionality of student ratings. (Author/BW)

Peer reviewedCentra, John A.; Linn, Robert L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
Student points of view in their ratings of courses and instructors were analyzed within three specific college courses and then generalized by analysis of a sample of responses from over 400 classes in five colleges. A factor analysis yielding three different student points of view is presented. (Author/JKS)

Drummond, Robert J.; McIntire, Walter G. – Together, 1976
Investigates the construct validity of the Hill Interaction Matrix--Form B, a 64-item instrument designed to assess preferred modes of interaction in group settings. A factor analysis was performed by using 134 subjects. Results indicate that the items and the conceptual format are appropriate. (Author)

Peer reviewedHowarth, Edgar – British Journal of Psychology, 1976
Instead of 12 factors, as originally specified in Cattell's foundation "personality sphere" studies of 30 years ago, it is herein suggested that possibly six clear-cut factors might have been extracted originally. The implications of this are examined, accompanied with recommendations for more accurate delineation of personality factors…

Attempts to determine whether different types of MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) profiles occur for heroin abusers and, if they existed, to describe them. (Author/RK)

Bell, Reginald L.; Quazi, Rahim; Jasper, Jan – Online Submission, 2004
Thirteen statements were all linked to one or more empirical studies found in the instructional methodology literature. The students completed a voluntary survey that contained demographic questions and 13 empirically linked statements on teaching practices students "believed helped them learn better." A Promax (Oblique) rotation revealed three…

Lee, Yong-Won – 2000
This paper reports the results of an analysis of a reading comprehension test using the Q subscript 3 (Q3) statistics developed by W. Yen (1984). Yen's Q3 can be a useful tool for examining local item dependence in the context of a reading comprehension test in which a set of related items is followed by a reading passage. Q3 is basically a…

Warner, Stephen L. – 1999
The factor make-up of the Protestant Work Ethic, first presented by M. Weber, was explored, and the relationship between endorsement of the Protestant Work Ethic and academic achievement was studied in a sample of 257 high school seniors. The independent variable was level of endorsement of the Protestant Work Ethic. The dependent variable was…

Witta, E. Lea – 2000
Because ignoring the missing data in an evaluation may lead to results that are questionable, this study investigated the effects of use of four missing data handling techniques on a survey instrument. A questionnaire containing 35 5-point Likert-style questions was completed by 384 respondents. Of these, 166 (43%) questionnaires contained 1 or…
