The Endler S-R Inventory of General Trait Anxiousness was analyzed employing Smallest Space Analysis (SSA) and factor analysis. The SSA yielded a two-dimensional lattice partitioning the space into regions corresponding to the situations specified in the inventory. The factor-analytic results were similar but not as informative. (Author/JAZ)

Peer reviewedAlexander, Douglas G.; Engin, Ann W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
The Survey of Reading Attitudes-Primary Level was administered orally to 269 first-grade, 240 second-grade, and 236 third-grade students. The responses were factored separately by grade using a principal factor method with varimax rotation. The results provided evidence for the multidimensionality of primary students' reading attitudes. (LMO)

Peer reviewedMarsh, Herbert W. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1987
This investigation tested the ability of an a priori hierarchical structure of self-concept derived from the Shavelson model to explain responses to the Self Description Questionnaire (SDQ) III, and demonstrated the application and problems with the use of hierarchical confirmatory factor analysis (HCFA). (Author/JAZ)

Peer reviewedBentler, P. M.; Lee, Sik-Yum – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1983
A method for the estimation of covariance structure models under polynomial constraints (such as quadratic constraints) is presented. Estimation is on maximum likelihood principles, and the test statistics, parameter estimates, and standard errors are based on a statistical theory which takes the constraints into account. (Author/JKS)

Peer reviewedIwawaki, Saburo; And Others – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 1985
Assesses the generalizability of structure of temperament across culture. Responses of 304 Japanese college students (59.5 male) to the Dimensions of Temperament Survey (DOTS) were compared to those of the American sample studied by Lerner, Palermo, Spiro and Nesselroade (1982) through the use of confirmatory factor analytic procedures. (Author/BE)

Peer reviewedBullock, Lyndal M.; And Others – Exceptional Children, 1985
Behavioral rating scales were completed by teachers on 1,078 behaviorally disordered students assigned to resource rooms in public schools, self-contained classrooms in public schools, psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers, and state training schools for the adjudicated. Data indicate that some differences do exist across settings…

Peer reviewedNeeper, Ronald; Lahey, Benjamin B. – School Psychology Review, 1986
A factor analysis of a revised and expanded 102-item version of the Children's Behavior Scale (CBRS) was conducted to complete development of this teacher rating scale. Results confirmed previous research on the CBRS that indicated that two independent dimensions of cognitive deficits can be identified in teacher ratings. (Author/LMO)

The Mathematics Attribution Scale-Algebra (MAS) was designed to assess attributions to ability, effort, task, and environment for success or failure in algebra. The study examined the reliability and validity of the MAS with high ability high school students. Results present a complicated picture of the psychometric properties of the MAS. (Author)

Peer reviewedMarsh, Herbert W.; And Others – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1984
Factor analyses of responses to the Self-Description Questionnaire (SDQ) by children in grades two to five clearly identified the seven SDQ factors, and correlations among these factors were consistent with Shavelson's model. The results also suggest that these factors become more distinct with age. (Author/BW)

Peer reviewedAiken, Lewis R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1985
Three numerical coefficients for analyzing the validity and reliability of ratings are described. Each coefficient is computed as the ratio of an obtained to a maximum sum of differences in ratings. The coefficients are also applicable to the item analysis, agreement analysis, and cluster or factor analysis of rating-scale data. (Author/BW)

Peer reviewedFederico, Pat-Anthony; Landis, David B. – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1984
Measures of six cognitive styles, six abilities, and 12 aptitudes were administered to 20l Navy recruits. Relationships among all cognitive attributes and between sets of styles and aptitudes were examined. Results indicated that many styles are significantly related to abilities and aptitudes. (Author/BW)

Peer reviewedReynolds, Cecil R.; Harding, Richard E. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
Six methods of measuring factorial similarity were compared with regard to outcome based on two large data sets, one for an intelligence test and the other for a personality test. All indexes yielded comparable results. Comparing factors determined at random, all indexes yielded comparable results leading to a conclusion of dissimilarity.…

Peer reviewedSmith, James M.; And Others – Journal of Gerontology, 1977
Ambulatory geriatric patients (N=370) were rated on the Geriatric Rating Scale and results factor analyzed. The scale was found to be composed of three factors: Withdrawal/Apathy, Antisocial Disruptive Behavior, and Deficits in Activities of Daily Living. The results help explain some of the findings regarding sex differences in previous research.…

Peer reviewedWong, Martin R.; Allen, Thomas – Journal of Drug Education, 1976
College students were asked to respond to eighteen household, legal, and illegal drugs. Perceptions of strength and dangerousness were highly correlated. Usage and dangerousness tended to be negatively correlated while usage and pleasantness tended to be positively correlated. The dangerousness dimension separated the drugs into legal and illegal…
