Moore, Kenneth D.; Hanley, Patricia E. – American Educational Research Journal, 1982
Elementary school teachers indicated six need areas: (1) developing effective learners and a mastery of basic skills; (2) guiding children to set up and achieve realistic goals; (3) locating materials and inservice support for effective teaching; (4) maintaining discipline; (5) identifying and understanding readiness factors that affect learning;…

Cadwell, Joel; Pullis, Michael – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1983
The factorial invariance of a temperament questionnaire was studied using the data provided by 24 teachers of 564 kindergarten through fourth-grade children. A LISREL analysis supported the hypothesized three-factor model and established factorial invariance of the shortened version of a behavioral rating scale constructed by Thomas and Chess.…

Loo, Robert – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1983
In examining considerations in determining sample sizes for factor analyses, attention was given to the effects of outliers; the standard error of correlations, and their effect on factor structure; sample heterogeneity; and the misuse of rules of thumb for sample sizes. (Author)

Antill, John K.; Cunningham, John D. – Social Behavior and Personality, 1982
Compared the Personal Attributes Questionnaire (PAQ) and the Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI) as measures of androgyny. Results showed that femininty (Concern for Others) and masculinity (Dominance) accounted for most of the variance, but for PAQ, clusters of male- and female-valued items (i.e., Extroversion and Insecurity) formed subsidiary factors.…

Paguio, Ligaya Palang – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
Responses of 522 middle-class parents to Torrance's Ideal Child Checklist were factor analyzed. Four dimensions were found to underly the 66 items that originally comprised the scale: Factor I, Confident, Aggressive, Well Adjusted; Factor II, Socially Virtuous; Factor III, Negativistic, Critical; and Factor IV, Creative-Intuitive. These dimensions…

Nuessle, Noel O.; Levine, Daniel U. – American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, 1982
A questionnaire, which is included, was developed to measure students' attitudes toward pharmacy as a profession, professional principles, and their preparation for the profession. It was administered to three consecutive year graduating classes in both pre- and post-externship so that changes in attitudes during the eight-week program might be…

Christophersen, Knut A.; Rand, Per – Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, 1982
The Achievement Motives Scale (AMS), constructed by Gjesme and Nygard, was administered to 594 Oslo (Norway) 6th graders and 364 Drammen (Norway) 6th graders. Factor analysis showed the two homogeneous scales of the AMS (tendency to approach success and avoid failure) measure different variables of achievement motive. (LC)

Lenk, Peter – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1983
Graphical representations of nominations and citations of colleagues in seven scientific fields--information science, human systems management, future studies, general systems, topology and differential geometry, and polymer chemistry--are presented. Conomination analysis and cocitation analysis are compared as techniques to study structure of…

Hamilton, Marlene A. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
The validity of a culture-specific modification/adaptation of the Remote Associates Test (RAT) made for Jamaica was examined with other measures of creativity in 11th grade students. Factor analysis showed the Jamaican RAT loading with the Circles Test on an apparent fluency factor of creativity. (Author/CM)

Millimet, C. Raymond; Flume, Mary E. – Research in Higher Education, 1982
Because publicized minimum criteria for graduate school admission are rarely sufficient to gain entrance to the school of one's choice, a study was undertaken to estimate the actual admission standards to graduate school. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores accounted for about twice as much variance as grade point average. (Author/MLW)

Sherwood, Robert D.; Westerback, Mary E. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1983
Determined the validity of using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-Y) with preservice elementary teachers (N=103). Factor analysis results, along with high-interval consistency levels, support use of the instrument (previously used with Air Force recruits) with preservice elementary teachers. (JN)
