Silon, Ellen L.; Harter, Susan – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1985
Three instruments designed to tap the self-system in normal IQ children were administered to 126 retarded children in mainstreamed and self-contained classrooms. Factor structures differed significantly from normal IQ results. The need to revise instruments for use with the retarded and to obtain social comparison information is emphasized.…

Daly, John A.; And Others – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1987
Attitudes of 116 undergraduate students toward academic interests (mathematics, science, reading, writing, and oral communication) were compared. Findings showed substantial correlations among operationalizations for each academic area, but correlations between different subject attitudes were modest. Kenny, Maureen E. – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1987
The extent and function of the parent-child bond, conceptualized according to Ainsworth's model of attachment, was explored for 173 first-year college students. Students' description of their parental relationships resembled Ainsworth's secure attachment type. Most students viewed their parents as a secure, encouraging, and available source of…

Benson, Jeri – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
This study demonstrated the use of confirmatory factor analysis to investigate the existence of item bias in an affective scale measuring self-concept. Data were collected from three ethnic groups in grade eight. A differential response pattern found across the three groups indicated potential bias in score interpretation. (Author/LMO)

Marsh, Herbert W. – International Journal of Educational Research, 1987
A paradigm is described for studying the applicability of two North American instruments (the Students' Evaluation of Educational Quality and Frey's Endeavor) to other countries. Factor analyses of studies in Australia, Spain, and Papua New Guinea support the generality of the instruments' factors to the educational contexts of other countries.…

Johnson, Mark E.; Fortman, Jay B. – Small Group Behavior, 1988
Examined internal structure of a modified version of the Gross Cohesiveness Scale (GCS) to determine factors involved in group cohesiveness as measured by the GCS. Performed Pearson product-moment correlations, factor analysis, and cluster analysis. Found two separate and distinct factors: affective and cognitive, both aspects of social cohesion.…

Gaziano, Cecilie; McGrath, Kristin – Journalism Quarterly, 1986
Describes measurement of the concept of media credibility in previous research and reports results of a national survey that treated credibility as a multidimensional concept. Concludes from factor analysis that credibility scores for newspapers and television news were correlated. (FL)

Feagans, Lynne; Applebaum, Mark I. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1986
This study extends the previous literature by identifying different subtypes of language disability within learning disabled children. Busse, Thomas V.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
Each of 434 West German and 446 American high school teachers nominated one student as highly gifted. All teachers completed a questionnaire in which they rated their nominees on 83 characteristics. The intercorrelations of the items were factor analyzed to yield seven German and five American factors. (LMO)

Khattab, Ali-Maher; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
Based on reanalyses of correlational data obtained from the University of Southern California Aptitudes Research Project, this investigation examined the extent to which two higher order factors of semantic content and symbolic content form Guilford's structure-of-intellect model reflected distinct constructs. Anderson, James C.; Gerbing, David W. – Psychometrika, 1984
This study of maximum likelihood confirmatory factor analysis found effects of practical significance due to sample size, the number of indicators per factor, and the number of factors for Joreskog and Sorbom's (1981) goodness-of-fit index (GFI), GFI adjusted for degrees of freedom, and the root mean square residual. Birenbaum, Menucha; Montag, Itzhak – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1986
The purpose of this study was to examine the location of Zukerman's sensation seeking (SS) construct in the personality domain as measured by Cattell's 16 personality factors (16PF). Results of the factor analytic study indicated that the global construct of sensation seeking is related to the broad personality factor of independence. (Author/LMO)
