Taxonomic category encoding was studied in 160 second and fourth grade students, both low-socioeconomic status Blacks and middle-class Whites. Three items were displayed sequentially, to be recalled later. The results provided conclusive evidence of the availability of taxonomic encoding categories in the groups sampled. (Author/GDC)

A preliminary classification is presented for functional human sexual disorders. This system is based on objective behavior and reports of distress. Concepts and methods suggested by cognitive psychology and recent experimental studies of the perception of duration have been employed in this research of judgments of historical duration by children aged between 8 and 15 years. A random sample of 460 Southern Illinois University-Carbondale students surveyed in 1973 indicates that students' self-descriptions on the Clark-Trow typology of academic orientations are moderately associated with their perceptions of the university, with nonconformist types as the most distinct academic orientation. Examination of the productive narrative competence of three five-year-olds revealed that the children routinely and regularly produced a striking variety of 14 narrative forms. Seventy percent of the narratives took anecdotal form, and original fantasy narratives occurred only rarely. (Author/CB)
