Jacobsen, Terri Lomenick; Waters, Harriet Salatas – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1985
Second- and fourth-grade children viewed a cylindrical object in nine positions and identified the 90- , 180- , or 270-degree positions from a set of photographs. Perspectives in which the object differed from the child's view in both left-right and near-far dimensions were more difficult than perspectives that only transformed one dimension.…

Keitz, Suzanne M.; Gounard, Beverley Roberts – Educational Gerontology, 1976
Prior research has shown that adults generally remember pictorial stimuli better than printed words. The present study was designed to determine whether memory for these two visual modes might be differentially affected by age. These results indicate that memory processes in the elderly differ quantitatively and not qualitatively. (Author)

Engle, Randall W.; Mobley, Linda A. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1976
This study tests the idea that visual presentation leads to higher performance on a delayed recall test than auditory presentation. It is predicted that the normal immediate free recall procedure yields a different pattern of results on a delayed test than a condition having immediate recall of each list. (CLK)

McClintock, Edwin; Jiang, Zhonghong; July, Raquel – 2002
This paper reports on a series of four studies carried out over a period of four years. These related studies were clinical and qualitative as they investigated middle and high school students' development of geometric thought, particularly as it related to three- dimensional visualization. Zimler, Jerome; Keenan, Janice M. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 1983
Three experiments compared congenitally blind and sighted adults and children on paired-associate, free-recall, and imaging tasks presumed to involve visual imagery in memory. In all three, blind subjects' performances were remarkably similar to the sighted. Results challenge previous explanations of performance such as Paivio's (1971). (Author/RD)

Instructor, 1983
This article explains two techniques for helping students develop long-term memory skills and retain information taught in class.
