Peer reviewedLienert, G. A.; Krauth, J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1975
Configural frequency analysis (CFA), a new method for identifying types, is illustrated numerically. Relations to latent class analysis and to factor analysis are discussed. It is suggested to use CFA as a type-defining method instead of factor analysis if the variables are linked not only by first but also by higher-order associations. (RC)

Nucci, Larry P.; Herman, Susan – 1981
To investigate how behavioral disordered (BD) children conceptualize moral, conventional, and personal issues, 20 BD and 22 normal fourth graders were asked to respond to a set of cartoon strips in which actions were depicted that violated either an explicitly stated rule or generally held cultural expectation. Ss were asked to rank the acts from…

Each of the three guides provides brief instruction in the use of specific indexes for locating desired items in the respective collections. The scope of each collection is described, and then a step-by-step approach, using examples, takes the reader from the selection of a topic in an appropriate index to the location of relevant items in the…

Vance, David – 1974
This paper describes the process of automatic extraction of implicit--global--data from explicit information by file inversion and threading. Each datum is the symbolic representation of a proposition, and as such has a number of movable parts corresponding to the ideal elements of the proposition represented; e.g., subject, predicate. A third…

Jamison, Wesley – 1980
The richness of the information available in cross-classification tables, compared to the information conveyed in the typical correlation coefficient, is emphasized in this paper. The kinds of information to be found in cross-classification tables are described, and several examples of the use of cross-classification patterns in research are…

Nitko, Anthony J. – 1980
A framework, or classification scheme, is provided for displaying the spectrum of criterion-referenced tests. This framework illustrates that no single type of test can be identified as the absolute prototype criterion-referenced test. It is shown that over the past 115 years criterion-referenced testing has grown to be a many-faceted concept, its…

HILLERICH, R. L. – 1967
TWENTY-SEVEN STUDIES ON INTERCLASS GROUPING AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL ARE SUMMARIZED. IT IS POINTED OUT THAT THE SUMMARY IS NEITHER EXHAUSTIVE NOR DELIBERATELY SLANTED. STUDIES POORLY DONE IN TERMS OF SAMPLE OR TREATMENT WERE NOT INCLUDED. THE STUDIES ARE GROUPED ACCORDING TO TWO QUESTIONS--(1) IS ACHIEVEMENT INCREASED BY GROUPING AND (2) ARE…

THE TRIPLE MODE TEST OF CATEGORIZATION (TMT-CAT), A COPY OF WHICH IS INCLUDED WITH THIS DOCUMENT, WAS CONSTRUCTED AND VALIDATED TO MEASURE THREE MAJOR MODES OF CATEGORIZATION POSTULATED BY VYGOTSKY. THE TMT-CAT CONTAINS 131 TEST ITEMS WHICH ARE PICTURES IN FORCED-CHOICE-PAIR COMPARISONS. THE CHILD MUST INDICATE PLACEMENT OF A STIMULUS PICTURE IN…

Stevenson, Gordon – 1980
Between 1900 and 1905, Rudolph Focke published a series of papers on classification theory and a draft of a code for the construction of classified catalogs. His work was the direct result of the reform of librarianship during the last decades of the nineteenth century. The large number of classification systems used by German university and…

Starkey, David – 1979
Studies of concept formation in infancy have demonstrated that certain experimental settings can elicit spontaneous behavior from infants which has been called "sorting" or "object grouping". This study pursues the issue of early sorting with infants as young as 6 months, and with a broader range of stimuli than has been used…

Katter, Robert V. – 1967
The investigation is part of a continuing project to find better means for studying and evaluating document representations (e.g., abstracts, indexes). The present study focused on understanding the ways individuals interpret index terms, with the goal of using the findings in improving indexing systems. Indexing systems use all-or-none bases for…

The classification may be used (1) to identify cancer research efforts supported by NCI in selected areas of research (at any general or specific level desired), (2) to store information related to cancer research and retrieve this information on request, and (3) to match interests of cancer research scientists against information in published…
