Twelve college seniors in an English methods course were assigned to three treatment groups, Grammatical, Holistic, and Both. Each group received different instructions but graded the same 10 themes. Themes graded for grammatical errors received lower grades than the same themes graded holistically. (NH)

Research was undertaken to determine the nature and scope of the Home Economics Research Journal through an analysis of information provided in articles about the authors, funding sources, topics, and citations. (Author)

Reviews the concept of thematic analysis, discusses its strengths and limitations, and explores the applicability of the concept to the literature of information science through an examination of articles from volumes 16-27 of the Journal of the American Society for Information Science. Concludes that next-day weather forecasts given by television stations are usually accurate and that stations seldom change their forecasts between the early evening and late evening newscasts. (FL)

Reports on an analysis of more than 200 high school newspapers which showed that only nine papers included humor on a regular basis. Uses excerpts from those nine newspapers to illustrate how humor can be used. (FL)

Compares newspaper readers' estimates of the incidence of specific crimes with the amount of news coverage that crime received and the readers' fears of being victimized with the crime news available to them. Suggests that newspaper emphasis upon relatively infrequent violent crimes may contribute to fear of criminal attack. (JMF)
