A plea for a revision of methods used in graduate language programs, particularly Spanish, this article opposes admitting students to graduate programs for the purpose of obtaining teachers or filling up upper-level classes. In order to offer students more stimulating lab learning, teachers at the University of Hawaii have developed the "lab sheet," a procedure that combines listening and writing skills.
