Mergen, A. Erhan; Pray, Thomas F. – Simulation & Gaming, 1992
Reviews the development and the principal elements of total quality management (TQM) and demonstrates methods for introducing some of the key elements into a strategy-oriented business simulation game that can be used to teach future managers. Topics discussed include increased focus on the customer; continuous improvement; and competitive…

Park, John C – Journal of Computing in Childhood Education, 1993
Fourth graders were presented decision-making tasks that required hands-on manipulation of objects or manipulation of images using a microcomputer. Computer manipulations used (1) keyboard input; (2) keyboard input and the presentation of reference objects; or (3) light pen input. Subjects required more time to respond to the task when using…

Weiser, Lawrence A.; Schug, Mark C. – Social Studies, 1992
Presents results of a study to determine the effectiveness of the Stock Market Game in contributing to students' learning about financial markets. Suggests that the biggest advantage of the game it its ability to motivate students. Includes the test that was used by the study to determine how much the students had learned. (DK)

Buja, Andreas; Eyuboglu, Nermin – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1992
Use of parallel analysis (PA), a selection rule for the number-of-factors problem, is investigated from the viewpoint of permutation assessment through a Monte Carlo simulation. Results reveal advantages and limitations of PA. Tables of sample eigenvalues are included. (SLD)

Jones, W. Paul – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1993
Investigated model for reducing time for administration of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) using real-data simulation of Bayesian scaling in computerized adaptive administration. Findings from simulation study using data from 127 undergraduates are strongly supportive of use of Bayesian scaled computerized adaptive administration of MBTI.…

Rolfe, John – Simulation/Games for Learning, 1991
Discusses the need to evaluate the effectiveness of games and simulations that are used for training and educational purposes. Evaluation criteria are described, including validity, reliability, and utility; methods of measuring training device effectiveness are explained; and problems encountered with evaluations are discussed. (30 references)…

Gustman, Alan L.; Steinmeier, Thomas L. – Industrial and Labor Relations Review, 1991
A simulation of the effects of proposed changes in Social Security rules (elimination of the Retirement Earnings Test and an increase in the Delayed Retirement Credit) for men working after retirement age demonstrated a rise in long-run costs by $43 billion in taxes and an increase of only 3.5 percent in the supply of older workers. Peterson, Norris A. – Journal of Economic Education, 1990
Presents a simple classroom simulation of the Lucas supply curve mechanism with rational expectations. Concludes that the exercise has proved very useful as an introduction to the concepts of rational and adaptive expectations, the Lucas supply curve, the natural rate hypothesis, and random supply shocks. Acker, Loren E.; And Others – Teaching of Psychology, 1990
Discusses a microcomputer program that was created to simulate the behavior of a computerized "animal" so that students could practice the shaping of behavior. Describes mathematical algorithms that allowed the "animal" to show gradual improvements in directional movements after appropriate shaping. Reports that students were…

Norcini, John J.; Shea, Judy A. – Academic Medicine, 1990
This study retrospectively applies aggregate scoring to the cardiology questions from a recertifying examination in general internal medicine. Three groups of experts were identified among the examinees and the remainder of the examinees were the participants (N=1887) of the study. Generalizability theory is applied to these data. (MLW)
