A priority goal of Iran's present Shah, Mohammad Raza Pahlevic, has been to bring all Iran into this century by means of education. The focus here was on Azarbaiyan, a state in the northwest of the country, and its resistance to all forms of change. The influence of religion as the basis for that resistance was discussed.
