The authors describe an experimental curriculum they developed, whose central core is the child's recognition of his uniqueness, identity, and legitimacy as a real person. A survey of medical school applicants rejected by the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University were surveyed about their actions and career plans after the rejection. Most experienced a career crisis, some an identity crisis. Better early career counseling is recommended. (MSE)
