Peer reviewedBowd, Alan D. – Alberta Journal of Educational Research, 1973
The broad objective of this study then, is to attempt to discover whether a set of environmental variables presumably of significance for cognitive growth, generates similar factor structures across groups of varying socioeconomic status. (Author)
Descriptors: Cognitive Development, Correlation, Environmental Research, Factor Analysis
Peer reviewedReifler, Clifford B. – Journal of the American College Health Association, 1973
Article discusses the desirability and feasability of establishing a national data bank for student mental health. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Databases, Mental Health, Mental Health Clinics, Pilot Projects
Peer reviewedHaney, John F. B. – Journal of the American College Health Association, 1973
This study was undertaken to determine the incidence of asymptomatic gonorrhea in sexually active women attending an outpatient gynecology clinic in a large university health service. (Author)
Descriptors: Clinics, College Students, Females, Health Services
Peer reviewedNader, John S. – Journal of the Air Pollution Control Association, 1973
Instrumentation for the measurement of pollutant emissions is considered including sample-site selection, sample transport, sample treatment, sample analysis, and data reduction, display, and interpretation. Measurement approaches discussed involve sample extraction from within the stack and electro-optical methods. (BL)
Descriptors: Air Pollution, Development, Environmental Influences, Evaluation
Peer reviewedMiller, P. M'C.; Dale, R. R. – Educational Review, 1973
Using the Semantic Differential, 274 first-year university students rated four concepts concerning university, producing scores on evaluation', potency' and activity'. For comparision these concepts were each paired with a concept relating to school. (Author)
Descriptors: Cognitive Measurement, Evaluation, Sampling, School Surveys
Peer reviewedJain, A. K. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1972
A plan for sampling in-library use is presented. The library is divided into a certain number of areas, and a sample of monographs within each area is selected for study. Inspection rounds are then made on each of the days of the survey period. (5 references) (Author/SJ)
Descriptors: Facility Utilization Research, Information Utilization, Libraries, Library Surveys

Descriptors: Business Education, Educational Research, Research Design, Research Methodology
Wohl, Julian; Dunlop, Andrew – Hum Organ, 1970
Descriptors: Attitudes, College Students, Cross Cultural Studies, Sampling
Peer reviewedMuthen, Bengt; Joreskog, Karl G. – Evaluation Review, 1983
Selectivity problems are discussed in terms of a general model that is estimated by the maximum likelihood method. Both single-group and multiple-group analyses are considered. An extension of the general model to latent variable models is discussed. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: Mathematical Models, Maximum Likelihood Statistics, Quasiexperimental Design, Research Methodology
Peer reviewedLomax, Richard G. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1982
Observational data were collected over a period of 120 school days from 11 elementary-level, self-contained, learning disabilities classrooms (N=105), using the Student Level Observation of Beginning Reading system. Findings indicate that reliable and unbiased observations of student behavior were obtained through the use of a single observer.…

Peer reviewedLuftig, Jeffrey T. – Journal of Epsilon Pi Tau, 1982
Students at the University of Northern Iowa were provided with a meaningful experience in quality assurance through a term project resulting from a problem submitted by a local manufacturing plant. Students were given the responsibility of developing a quality control and inspection system that was actually installed in the plant. (SK)
Descriptors: Case Studies, Higher Education, Industrial Education, Industry
Peer reviewedDaniel, Wayne W.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
To test the use of Bayes's theorem to adjust for nonresponse bias, 600 hospitals were used in a simulated sample survey. On the basis of known information on five variables, Bayes's formula correctly predicted the status of 92 of the 100 "nonrespondents" relative to a sixth variable. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Bayesian Statistics, Data Analysis, Data Collection, Hospitals
Peer reviewedStephens, Max – Theory and Research in Social Education, 1982
Argues that there has been a tendency to limit claims of generalizability to educational research studies which could demonstrate an appropriate use of sampling theory. The results of field studies based on precise consistent observation can be used to interpret more general social behavior. (AM)
Descriptors: Educational Research, Elementary Secondary Education, Field Studies, Generalization
Peer reviewedClarkson, Douglas B. – Psychometrika, 1979
The jackknife by groups and modifications of the jackknife by groups are used to estimate standard errors of rotated factor loadings for selected populations in common factor model maximum likelihood factor analysis. Simulations are performed in which t-statistics based upon these jackknife estimates of the standard errors are computed.…
Descriptors: Error of Measurement, Factor Analysis, Factor Structure, Mathematical Models
Peer reviewedCline, Hugh F.; Sinnott, Loraine T. – New Directions for Program Evaluation, 1981
Methods useful in identifying and assessing outcomes of relatively simple programs may not be practical or appropriate for complex programs and systems. Comparative case study methods are recommended for dealing with such global outcomes of planned organizational change. (Author)
Descriptors: Case Studies, Comparative Analysis, Organizational Change, Program Evaluation
