Peer reviewedBarenbaum, Lester; Ricci, Raymond – College and University, 1982
An enrollment projection model designed and implemented at LaSalle College had five phases: establishing clear goals, model construction, model implementation, model estimation and validation, and using the forecast. The history of LaSalle's model and the elements in decision making are outlined. (MSE)
Descriptors: Case Studies, College Planning, Enrollment Projections, Higher Education
Peer reviewedTaiwo, 'Diran – Science Education, 1981
Reports on a study to determine whether attitude scores of 120 preservice Nigerian science teachers, measured by the Science Student-Teacher Questionnaire, are significant predictors of practice teaching scores, measured by a student practice teaching evaluation form. Copies of both measures are included in an appendix. (DS)
Descriptors: Attitude Measures, Higher Education, Predictor Variables, Preservice Teacher Education
Peer reviewedOlsson, Ulf – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1979
The paper discusses the consequences for maximum likelihood factor analysis which may follow if the observed variables are ordinal with only a few scale steps. Results indicate that classification may lead to a substantial lack of fit of the model--an erroneous indication that more factors are needed. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Classification, Factor Analysis, Goodness of Fit, Maximum Likelihood Statistics
Peer reviewedBenz, Carolyn R.; And Others – American Educational Research Journal, 1981
The effect of the variables of student sex, grade level, and student achievement on teacher sex role expectations was assessed. Of the four variables, student achievement was a highly significant predictor. A negative relationship was found between the feminine sex role and high achievement. (Author/GK)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Age Differences, Androgyny, Elementary Secondary Education
Peer reviewedNeely, Margery A.; Johnson, Craig W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
An examination of the performance of Grade 10 boys and girls on six Career Development Inventory subscales (dependent variables) through use of a three-way multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) on sex, father's education, and father's occupation (independent or classificatory variables) is presented. (Author/AL)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Correlation, Employment Level, Fathers
Peer reviewedTunick, Roy H.; And Others – Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, 1979
This study identifies predictors and correlates of attitudes toward the disabled. Authoritarianism, church attendance, religious orthodoxy, age, and education were significantly related to these attitudes of people in a Rocky Mountain Community. Significant predictors of the criterion were authoritarianism, religiosity, and age. Recommendations…
Descriptors: Attitudes toward Disabilities, Authoritarianism, Disability Discrimination, Negative Attitudes
Peer reviewedNice, D. Stephen; And Others – Journal of Marriage and the Family, 1981
Investigated marital stability and perceptions of marital adjustment and family environment among Navy prisoners of war repatriated from Vietnam (RPWs) and a Navy comparison group. Results indicated that the post-repatriation divorce rate among the RWP group was significantly higher than for the comparison group. (Author)
Descriptors: Adjustment (to Environment), Comparative Analysis, Coping, Divorce
Nichols, Edward E., Sr. – Journal of Student Financial Aid, 1980
The relationship and effects of financial aid packaging on college grade-point averages is examined. The need to reduce the subjectivity of packaging student financial awards is emphasized. (MLW)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Grade Point Average, Higher Education, Need Analysis (Student Financial Aid)
Peer reviewedAllen, Richard L. – Communication Research--An International Quarterly, 1981
Assesses the reliability and stability of television exposure, and the relationship of various demographic variables to this hypothetical construct, when measurement error is removed. Analyzes data collected from Black adults. Concludes that more attention should be given to theoretically defining media exposure and to taking into account…
Descriptors: Adults, Blacks, Communication Research, Demography
Peer reviewedPourchot, Leonard; Lanning, Frank – Journal of the Association for the Study of Perception, 1979
In this study self-concept, as measured by subjects' self-ratings of mechanical ability, was correlated to scores on the Pourchot Mechanical Manipulation Test of bilateral hand tool dexterity. Significant relationships were found. Subjects, ages 10-84, differed in results by age, sex, and mechanical experience. (SJL)
Descriptors: Adolescents, Adults, Age Differences, Correlation
Peer reviewedWish, John R.; Hamilton, William D. – Research in Higher Education, 1980
The viability of Freeman's model, which uses three equations to analyze causative demand and supply determinants, is examined as a management tool for explaining and predicting enrollments and the job market using macro and micro cases. (MSE)
Descriptors: College Administration, Educational Demand, Educational Supply, Employment Potential
Peer reviewedAshmore, Robert J.; Snyder, Robert T. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1980
This paper presents evidence that the Snyder/Pope Visual Memory Technique using the Bender-Gestalt Test is a useful predictor of reading ability for first-grade children. Short-term visual recall appears highly related to the Grade 1 reading task and should be assessed when children begin learning to read. (Author/SJL)
Descriptors: Grade 1, Predictive Measurement, Predictor Variables, Primary Education
Ayers, J. Douglas – Canadian Journal of Higher Education, 1980
It is recommended that in institutions not offering open enrollment, the General Education Development Tests be used to determine cutoff points for program admission. Results of this study indicate that existing cutoff points may be too high, and that open enrollment may be advisable. (MSE)
Descriptors: Admission Criteria, College Freshmen, Dropouts, Equivalency Tests
Peer reviewedWaterman, Alan S.; Archer, Sally – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1979
Three studies assessed the relationship between expressive writing (poetry writing and journal keeping) and ego identity development among high school and college students. Poetry writers were more likely to be in the identity achiever status. No differences were found between students keeping personal journals and those who had not. (Author/GDC)
Descriptors: Adolescent Development, Descriptive Writing, Developmental Stages, Diaries
Peer reviewedShepard, Lorrie – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The California Entry Level Test (ELT) means are used with demographic variables to predict differences among California schools and districts on subsequent reading achievement tests. Factor analyses resulted in distinct factors for each of the subtests. The validity of the ELT was very high for its intended purpose. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Correlation, Factor Analysis, Grade 1, Predictive Validity
