Peer reviewedStafford, Mary E.; Oakland, Thomas D. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1996
Addresses construct validity for comparisons of racial-ethnic group response patterns on the SSQ when age is considered as a factor. Assesses whether the SSQ's factor structure is similar for African American, Hispanic American, and Anglo American children and youth, grouped by ages 8-10, 11-13, and 14-17 years old. (RJM)

Peer reviewedJames, David – Community College Enterprise, 2002
This article suggests that many college educators are resistant to change, in spite of their reputation for being innovative. The author highlights three major techniques educators use to sabotage change--creating committees, using the past to dictate the future, and sticking their heads in the ground--and suggests steps to overcome them. Peer reviewedYin, Ping; Brennan, Robert L. – International Journal of Testing, 2002
Studied longitudinal changes in performance at both the student and school district level in major content areas of a widely used norm-referenced grade-level testing program. Used data from grades 3 to 4 and from 7 to 8 of the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (in Iowa). Reports descriptive statistics and empirical norms and reliability estimates for…

Peer reviewedTorbeyns, Joke; van den Noortgate, Wim; Ghesquiere, Pol; Verschaffel, Lieven; van de Rijt, Bernadette A. M.; van Luit, Johannes E. H. – Educational Research and Evaluation: An International Journal on Theory and Practice, 2002
Studied the development of early numeracy in 207 5- to 7-year-old Flemish children compared with 299 Dutch peers. Results suggest that the Early Numeracy Test (J. van Luit and others, 1994) is moderately reliable and has construct validity. Flemish children lagged at the first assessment but caught up by the third in the middle of the first year…

Peer reviewedLynch, Shirley; Hurford, David P.; Cole, AmyKay – Adolescence, 2002
Evaluates the Lynch Enabling Survey for Parents (LESP), and determines the scale to be reliable and valid. Also examines the differences between at-risk and honors students and their parents' LESP scores. Results reveal that the LESP scores of parents of at-risk students were significantly more enabling than were the responses of parents of honors…

Peer reviewedWongwiwatthananukit, Supakit; Newton, Gail D.; Popovich, Nicholas G. – American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, 2002
Sought to develop a reliable and valid instrument to measure pharmacy students' self-confidence and to determine the effect of selected demographic variables as independent predictors of self-confidence. Found that the instrument had content validity, high internal consistency reliability, and convergent and discriminant validity. Several…

Peer reviewedVincent, Claude; Dumont, Claire; Bouchard, Daniele; Lesperance, Francoise – Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness, 2003
The Assessment of Computer Task Performance was developed to evaluate the performance of children with low vision when using sequences of actions that result in a computer command. Results with 22 students (ages 4-12) show that four standardized tasks have high reliability and one has a moderate degree of reliability. (Contains references.)…

Peer reviewedTemple, Linda; Lips, Hilary M. – Educational Research Quarterly, 1989
The Collis Attitudes toward Computers Survey, developed by B. Collis (1984) for a secondary school population, was tested with 305 college students attending the University of Winnipeg (Canada). Results support the reliability and generalizability of the survey and identified one dominant factor--personal interest and enjoyment of computers. (SLD)

Peer reviewedOttenbacher, Kenneth J. – Journal of Special Education, 1990
The agreement between visual analysis and the results of the split-middle method of trend estimation was examined using a set of 24 stimulus graphs and 30 raters. Results revealed poor agreement between the two methods, and low sensitivity, specificity, and predictive ability for visual analysis in relation to statistical inferences. (JDD)

Peer reviewedWilson, Kenneth M. – Research in Higher Education, 1988
A study of the long-term stability of Graduate Record Examination scores for graduate program admission purposes investigated the changes in scores among test repeaters. Results suggest that long-term test repeaters have greater gains on verbal than quantitative tests. Explanations and implications are considered. (MSE)

Peer reviewedRozeboom, William W. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1989
Formulas are provided for estimating the reliability of a linear composite of non-equivalent subtests given the reliabilities of component subtests. The reliability of the composite is compared to that of its components. An empirical example uses data from 170 children aged 4 through 8 years performing 34 Piagetian tasks. (SLD)
