Peer reviewedKopriva, Rebecca J.; Shaw, Dale G. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1991
The degree to which reliability affects the power of analysis of variance (ANOVA) tests involving one factor with two and three samples was quantified and tabulated by taking into account sample size, level of significance, and true score effect size. Results confirm a substantial effect on power. (SLD)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Effect Size, Equations (Mathematics), Estimation (Mathematics)
Peer reviewedFriedrich, William N.; And Others – Psychological Assessment, 1992
Comparison of scores from a normative sample of 880 children and 276 sexually abused children on the Child Sexual Behavior Inventory (CSBI), a checklist for 2- through 12-year-old children, supports the reliability and validity of the instrument. The CSBI is directly related to specific features of sexual abuse. (SLD)
Descriptors: Behavior Patterns, Check Lists, Child Abuse, Children
Peer reviewedRepetto, Jeanne B.; And Others – Career Development for Exceptional Individuals, 1993
This paper discusses the role of transition in school reform and methodology for developing a Florida database on transition-related programs. It describes procedures for ensuring the validity and reliability of database information sources. Findings from the data collection process, concerning common program terminology and school district size…
Descriptors: Data Collection, Database Design, Databases, Disabilities
Peer reviewedMarsh, Herbert W. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1993
Structural equation models of the same construct collected on different occasions are evaluated in 2 studies involving the evaluation of 157 college instructors over 8 years and data for over 2,200 high school students over 4 years for the Youth in Transition Study. Results challenge overreliance on simplex models. (SLD)
Descriptors: College Faculty, Comparative Analysis, High School Students, High Schools
Peer reviewedZebb, Barbara J.; Meyers, Lawrence S. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1993
The reliability and validity of the revised California Psychological Inventory's (CPI) Vector 1 scale, a measure of introversion and extraversion, were studied with 345 college students (109 males and 236 females). Results support the scale as a valid measure of the introversion-extraversion construct of H. G. Gough. (SLD)
Descriptors: Affective Behavior, College Students, Correlation, Extraversion Introversion
Peer reviewedCiesla, James R.; And Others – Evaluation and the Health Professions, 1993
Data from 6,472 South Carolina residents aged over 55 years support the reliability of S. Katz's Activities of Daily Living scale when data are collected by self-report telephone interview. Results indicate that telephone interview methods are a fast, inexpensive, and safe way to collect data for research and policy formation. (SLD)
Descriptors: Adults, Correlation, Daily Living Skills, Data Collection
Peer reviewedGoffin, Richard D.; Jackson, Douglas N. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1992
The way in which trait and rater variance combine in multitrait-multirater (MTMR) performance appraisal data is explored. Implications of the confirmatory factor analytic model and the composite direct product (CDP) model for MTMR data are examined. Superior fit of the CDP model for four data sets is discussed. (SLD)
Descriptors: Equations (Mathematics), Evaluation Methods, Goodness of Fit, Interrater Reliability
Peer reviewedMeins, Wolfgang – Research in Developmental Disabilities, 1993
The applicability of the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) (in the informant-rating version) to mentally retarded adults was evaluated with 798 individuals. Evaluation of internal consistency, interrater reliability, factor analysis, and effects of age, sex, and degree of mental retardation indicated that the CDI is suitable as a diagnostic…
Descriptors: Adults, Age Differences, Behavior Rating Scales, Depression (Psychology)
Peer reviewedSmittle, Pat – Journal of Developmental Education, 1993
Describes a study to determine whether traditional paper-and-pencil tests or new computer-adaptive tests were better suited for assessing entering students at Santa Fe Community College, Florida. Focuses on teachers' attitudes toward computerized placement tests (CPTs), relationships between CPT scores and course grades, predictive ability of CPT…
Descriptors: Aptitude Tests, Community Colleges, Computer Assisted Testing, Predictive Validity
Peer reviewedMaurer, Todd J.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1990
One implication of attitude self-ratings, that scales may become recalibrated transiently, was investigated conservatively using hypothesized shifts of data from 368 college students rating the desirability of taking senior comprehensive examinations. Results support the validity and reliability of simple graphic rating scales as measures of…

Worthington, Lou Anne; Harrison, Patti L. – Diagnostique, 1990
The Walker-McConnell Scale of Social Competence and School Adjustment is intended for screening and identifying elementary-aged school children with social skill deficits. The instrument is divided into two components covering adaptive classroom behavior and interpersonal social skills. This paper describes the test's administration, summation of…

Brassard, Marla R.; And Others – Child Abuse and Neglect: The International Journal, 1993
The Psychological Maltreatment Rating Scales (PMRS) were developed for assessing psychological maltreatment in the mother-child interaction, and were used to rate the videotaped interaction of 49 high-risk mother-child dyads and predict child protective service involvements. The PMRS was found to be a moderately reliable and valid measure.…

Peer reviewedAllen, Bryce – Information Processing and Management, 1994
Describes two experiments that were conducted at the University of Illinois to determine how cognitive abilities of users of information retrieval systems and specific design features combine to create system usability. Logical reasoning and perceptual speed are examined, and reliability and validity are discussed. (Contains 12 references.) (LRW)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Cognitive Ability, Higher Education, Hypothesis Testing
Peer reviewedRoznowski, Mary – Intelligence, 1993
A measurement and psychometric examination of cognitive tasks was carried out with 195 undergraduates, investigating stability of latencies and number correct scores over a 2-week period and relations with standardized test and ability measure scores. Results are discussed in terms of the need for evaluating cognitive task measurement properties.…
