Bartz, Albert E.; Wenstrom, Lisa – Teaching of Psychology, 1981
The purpose of this survey was to identify the statistics texts most frequently used by psychology departments and to see if a typical survey of textbooks used by a partial sample of psychology departments would be accurate in describing the entire sample of departments. Partial returns resulted in a meaningful error. (RM)

Cliff, Norman; And Others – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1979
Monte Carlo research with TAILOR, a program using implied orders as a basis for tailored testing, is reported. TAILOR typically required about half the available items to estimate, for each simulated examinee, the responses on the remainder. (Author/CTM)

Shaver, James P.; Norton, Richard S. – Educational Researcher, 1980
Provides data on several questions: Do educational researchers (1) select their samples randomly from accessible populations, (2) define their target populations and describe their samples, and (3) restrict their conclusions according to sampling limitations or in regard to differences between sample and target populations? (4) Is replication a…

Wilcox, Rand R. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1980
This paper discusses how certain recent technical advances might be extended to examine proficiency tests which are conceptualized as representing a variety of skills with one or more items per skill. In contrast to previous analyses, errors in the item level are included. (Author/BW)

Hynes, Kevin; Givner, Nathaniel – Journal of Medical Education, 1981
Changes were studied that occur when the correlations between the six Medical College Admission Test scales and the scores on the Part I examination of the National Board of Medical Examiners are corrected for restriction of range. (MLW)

Hoste, R. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1981
In this paper, a proposal is made by which a content validity coefficient can be calculated. An example of the use of the coefficient is given, demonstrating that different question combinations in a CSE biology examination in which a choice of questions was given gave different levels of content validity. Penfield, Douglas A.; Koffler, Stephen L. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1978
Three nonparametric alternatives to the parametric Bartlett test are presented for handling the K-sample equality of variance problem. The two-sample Siegel-Tukey test, Mood test, and Klotz test are extended to the multisample situation by Puri's methods. These K-sample scale tests are illustrated and compared. (Author/GDC)

Blumstein, Alfred; Cohen, Jacqueline – Evaluation Quarterly, 1979
Evaluations involving nonrandom assignment to treatment or control groups are vulnerable to an accidental or intentional confounding of a selection effect with the treatment effect. Two techniques, discriminant analysis and base expectancy analysis, permit separate estimation of the selection and treatment effects in the final results. (Author/CTM)

Doyle, Kenneth O., Jr. – New Directions for Institutional Advancement, 1979
The vocabulary of sampling is examined in order to provide a clear understanding of basic sampling concepts. The basic vocabulary of sampling (population, probability sampling, precision and bias, stratification), the fundamental grammar of sampling (random sample), sample size and response rate, and cluster, multiphase, snowball, and panel…
