Hancock, Gregory R.; An, Ji – Measurement: Interdisciplinary Research and Perspectives, 2020
As an alternative to Cronbach's [alpha] for estimating scale reliability, McDonald's [omega] has attracted increased attention within the methodological community for its less stringent measurement assumptions. Notwithstanding, [omega] is still seldom used by practitioners, likely due to its unavailability in popular software packages (e.g., SPSS)…

Steinmann, Isa; Sánchez, Daniel; van Laar, Saskia; Braeken, Johan – Assessment in Education: Principles, Policy & Practice, 2022
Questionnaire scales that are mixed-worded, i.e. include both positively and negatively worded items, often suffer from issues like low reliability and more complex latent structures than intended. Part of the problem might be that some responders fail to respond consistently to the mixed-worded items. We investigated the prevalence and impact of…

The purpose of our study was to assess the test-retest reliability and concurrent validity of the 30 sec Sit to Stand test in a sample of adolescents. We recruited 30 male (58%) and 22 female (42%) participants (mean age = 15.77 years ± 0.46). Participants completed the 30-sec Sit to Stand and standing long jump tests on two occasions separated by…

Mirian Agus; Giovanni Bonaiuti; Arianna Marras – Journal of Science Education and Technology, 2024
In recent years, numerous research studies have highlighted how teachers' perceptions of educational robotics (ER) and their sense of self-efficacy can influence the learning process. Although different instruments exist to investigate teachers' perspectives on ER, the Robotics Interest Questionnaire (RIQ) scale, developed within the Portuguese…

Jesus Alfonso D. Datu; Ming Ming Chiu; Nino Jose Mateo; Lan Yang – International Journal of STEM Education, 2024
Past studies of grit's educational benefits, such as science engagement, showed mixed results across cultures. So, we elaborated the prior model of grit (perseverance of effort, consistency of interest) with "adaptability to situations" (forming a "triarchic model of grit" TMG), and tested TMG's relation to subsequent science…

Scott J. Peters; Matthew C. Makel; Lindsay Ellis Lee; Tamra Stambaugh; Matthew T. McBee; D. Betsy McCoach; Kiana R. Johnson – Gifted Child Today, 2024
Universal screening is one of the most-common topics and well-accepted best practices within the field of gifted and talented education. There appears to be little disagreement that universally screening all students as part of a gifted and talented identification process results in fewer missed students. But surprisingly, there is little guidance…

J. Jacob Kirksey; Joseph Elefante – Journal of Education for Students Placed at Risk, 2024
Student absenteeism is a persistent concern in K-12 education. Not only are the negative academic and social consequences of excessive absenteeism well documented, but states, districts, and schools are increasingly being held accountable for student attendance. Lauren N. Currie; Robinder P. Bedi; Anita M. Hubley – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2024
This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Hope-Action Inventory (HAI) scores with a problematic substance use population (N = 783). The hierarchical seven-factor structure of the HAI fit the data well. Further, the HAI scores had satisfactory internal consistency reliability and good convergent evidence for validity.
