Administered the Survey of Reading Attitudes to 235 intermediate-grade students in a suburban parochial school. Results indicate the development of reading attitudes is influenced by a variety of variables, and suggests school systems should determine their own local norms for the eight dimensions measured by the survey. A class of naive estimators of correlation was tested for robustness, accuracy, and efficiency against Pearson's r, Tukey's r, and Spearman's r. Results indicate that individuals with relatively less developed (less differentiated) interpersonal construct systems can be expected to exhibit greater consistency between their attitudes about a person and their behavioral intentions toward that person than those with more developed interpersonal construct systems.
