Peer reviewedSeddon, G. M. – Review of Educational Research, 1978
Authors of the taxonomy made various claims about its properties that concern both educational and psychological issues; these claims have stimulated investigations of the taxonomy's validity. As the taxonomy is now entering its twenty-second year, this review attempts to survey these investigations and appraise the findings. (Author/CP)

Peer reviewedKane, Michael; Moloney, James – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1978
The answer-until-correct (AUC) procedure requires that examinees respond to a multi-choice item until they answer it correctly. Using a modified version of Horst's model for examinee behavior, this paper compares the effect of guessing on item reliability for the AUC procedure and the zero-one scoring procedure. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Guessing (Tests), Item Analysis, Mathematical Models, Multiple Choice Tests
Peer reviewedNelson, W. M., III; And Others – Journal of Personality Assessment, 1978
This study used 126 young adult black and white male inmates to test the comparability of the Pauker and Statz and Mogul short forms with the standard Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS). The Pauker form was superior with this population. Findings should not be generalized to other ages, races, or to women. (Author/CP)

Peer reviewedErlich, Oded; Shavelson, Richard J. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1978
Measures of teacher behavior are related to student achievement in fifth grade reading and mathematics instruction. It was found that those measures of teacher behavior which were generalizable (that is, more highly reliable) were found to be significantly related to student achievement. (JKS)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Classroom Observation Techniques, Correlation, Intermediate Grades
Peer reviewedRemer, Rory – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1978
The relative efficiency and cost-effectiveness of three methods of producing and administering a worksample simulation test of interpersonal communication competence employing a multiple choice response format is explored. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Communication Skills, Cost Effectiveness, Higher Education, Interpersonal Competence
Peer reviewedMoreland, John R.; And Others – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1978
Four factor scores from the Bem Sex Role Inventory were derived from a factor analysis of college student responses and were compared with the original scales on a new sample of students. The factor scales were more internally consistent than those constructed by Bem. (Author/CTM)

Peer reviewedReing, Alvin B. – Journal of Special Education, 1978
The hypothesis that multisensory imagery is a specific teacher competency associated with effective pedagogy, particularly in special education, was tested in a study of 63 special education teacher trainees (18-24 years old) who were given a self-report graphic Multisensory Imagery Scale. (Author)

Peer reviewedBarnette, J. Jackson; And Others – Educational Research Quarterly, 1978
The DELPHI procedure requires respondents to reply to several questionnaire iterations with subsequent rounds containing previous round feedback. This study investigated the methodology (response rates, effects of feedback) and offered evidence that large-scale DELPHI surveys are not as advantageous as has previously been indicated. Suggestions…
Descriptors: Feedback, Item Analysis, Measurement Techniques, Predictive Measurement
Peer reviewedFrey, Dieter – Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, 1978
Shows that the reaction to success and failure differs when it is communicated publicly or privately and when the reaction to success is measured publicly or privately. Participants took an intelligence test and received results which were positively or negatively discrepant from the average. These results are interpreted in terms of a…

Peer reviewedWhitely, Susan E. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1977
A debate concerning specific issues and the general usefulness of the Rasch latent trait test model is continued. Methods of estimation, necessary sample size, and the applicability of the model are discussed. (JKS)
Descriptors: Error of Measurement, Item Analysis, Mathematical Models, Measurement
Peer reviewedEakin, Richard R.; Long, Clifford A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
A scoring technique for true-false tests is presented. The technique, paired item scoring, involves combining two statements and having the student select one of the four resultants possible: true-true, false-true, true-false, and false-false. The combined item is treated as a multiple choice item. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Guessing (Tests), Measurement Techniques, Multiple Choice Tests, Objective Tests
Peer reviewedNevo, Barukh – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
Item-test correlations are compared to item test-retest correlations as measures for selecting items in test construction. The author concludes that the item test-retest method is superior for item analysis which aims at getting shorter tests while maintaining test stability. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: College Students, Correlation, Higher Education, Item Analysis
Peer reviewedLoesch, Larry C.; McDavis, Roderick J. – Counselor Education and Supervision, 1978
This article discusses the development, field test, and uses of the counseling-orientation scale (COS), a scale for assessing relative preferences for seven major counseling orientations. Procedures used to develop and validate it are presented. The COS field test, reliability, and normative data are described. (Author)
