The results of exercise testing in 192 apparently healthy women were examined to assess the false-positive rate in cardiovascular response. Findings are presented. It is suggested that varying methods of testing and interpretation may account for the high rate of false positivity in some testing centers. (Author/MT)

The static contraction endurance characteristics of five muscle groups were investigated in 38 normal, health, college-aged men. Four parameters of continuous and intermittent contractions were examined. Results support the hypothesis that endurance is unique to each muscle group and specific to the task performed. (Author/MT)

Pate, Russell R.; And Others – Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 1985
Eight male and eight female runners were matched on the basis of performance in a 24.2 kilometer road race, and subjected to various performance and body measurements. The results indicated that the male and female runners were very similar in body composition and in metabolic and cardiorespiratory responses to exercise. (Author/MT)

To establish the net energy cost of dribbling a soccer ball, eight males ran on a treadmill while dribbling a ball against a rebound box. Oxygen uptake, perceived exertion, and blood lactate levels were measured and compared with results from subjects running without dribbling. Results are discussed. (Author/DF)

This investigation examined day-to-day variations in metabolic measurements during submaximal running and cycling. Significant differences were found in the oxygen uptake (VO2) of runners and cyclists and the minute ventilation (VE) of cyclists while running, but blood lactic acid (HLA) did not differ day to day.
