Presents a multidimensional conception of fear of death and provides subscales for measuring suggested dimensions (fear of the dying process, of the dead, of being destroyed, for significant others, of the unknown, of conscious death, for body after death, and of premature death). Referred children were rated as significantly less self-controlled on the self control rating scale (SCRS) than were matched nonreferred children. Significant differences were found on the SCRS, Matching Familiar Figures test latencies and behavioral observations. The SCRS appeared to be a reliable and valid index of self-control. (Author)

The English Picture Vocabulary Test and the Croydon Checklist (for teachers) were used for screening along with a standardized reading test to measure the predictive validity of the screening instruments. Results indicated that a number of children were misclassified and reasons for this, such as teachers' misconceptions, are discussed. (PHR)

Results indicate that short forms of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory may not be accurate substitutes for the standard form in predicting objective measures of psychopathology.
