A selective literature review indicates that the presence or absence of such a link cannot be established. Explored the relationships of the Revised Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT-R), Peabody Individual Achievement Test, and the McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities in elementary students. The PPVT-R appears to be most appropriate as a brief measure of verbal comprehension, rather than a substitute for the McCarthy scales. (JAC)

Younger (N=30) and older adults (N=30) performed the picture completion and picture arrangement subtests of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale under three conditions of stimuli size: standard, larger than standard, and smaller than standard. Size of stimuli did not influence the test scores of younger or older adults. (Author)

Administered the WISC and the WISC-R in a counterbalanced design to 20 Hispanic children. Revealed the WISC-R to be as culturally biased as the WISC and that more Hispanic children may be labeled as mentally deficient. Suggested that verbal IQ reflects the extent of acculturation, while Performance IQ reflects actual ability. (Author)

The article reviews the significance and implications of Larry P. vs Riles, which found the use of standardized IQ tests on Black children unconstitutional for the purpose of the educable mentally retarded placement unless the court gives prior approval to the testing. (CL)

An unselected sample of rural English children completed the WPPSI at age 4 1/2 and the WISC-R four years later. Correlations were examined, as were relationships of subjects' subtest scores to Wechsler's norms. Characteristics of children not cooperating in the follow-up were considered. (SJL)
