Nagle, Richard J.; Lazarus, Susan C. – Journal of School Psychology, 1979
Sixteen-year-old EMR children were administered the WAIS and WISC-R in counterbalanced order to determine the comparability of the two assessment instruments. The WAIS was found to yield significantly higher scores. Results suggest differences between the two instruments among children of subnormal intelligence. (Author)

Valencia, Richard R. – Psychology in the Schools, 1979
Compares the nonverbal intellectual performance as measured by the Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices of Chicano and Anglo third-grade boys. When language status and cultural content of the testing instrument are controlled, mean group differences become negligible. This is a sound intelligence measure for use with Chicano children. Goldman, Janice G. – Journal of Personality Assessment, 1977
Specific sub-tests of the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI) and Merrill-Palmer Scales have been observed to evoke behavioral expression of phase-specific conflicts. Clinical observations of a disadvantaged inner-city population suggest that what is being tested is the preschool child's experience with adults in the…

Clark, Stephen K. – Aspects of Educational and Training Technology Series, 1992
Investigates several instruments measuring intelligence and prior conceptual knowledge/achievement to determine how well they predict outcomes in computer assisted language learning. Concludes that a non-verbal intelligence test was a significant predictor, but that prior conceptual knowledge of course content was low. Level of prior achievement…

Marks, Daniel – Educational Research Quarterly, 1989
Statewide achievement testing programs in public schools are examined from a historical perspective over 150 years. Written tests, standardized tests, intelligence tests, and test batteries are considered. A survey of present programs demonstrates a wide variety that is attributable to the ad hoc origins of these programs. (SLD)

Hendrick, Irving G.; MacMillan, Donald L. – Journal of Special Education, 1989
This paper describes efforts to establish ungraded classes for mildly retarded children in New York City from 1900-1920, focusing on struggles to find and train qualified teachers, correctly identify children to be served, and provide ample classroom space. Leong, Che Kan – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1989
In this commentary on Linda Siegel's paper (EC221505), it is argued that a minimum level of general ability is needed for successful reading performance. Above this threshold other kinds of intelligence are required and more important is the contribution of verbal efficiency, which is predicated on the covariance of phonology, morphology, and…

Montie, Jeanne E.; Fagan, Joseph F., III – Intelligence, 1988
The nature of differences in performance on the third revision of the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale (Form L-M) was assessed for two independent samples of Black (n=86) and White (n=86) preschoolers matched for parental education, age, and sex. Large differences, favoring White children, were found. Test bias is discussed. (TJH)

Gauthier, Yvon – Canadian Journal of Special Education, 1993
Twenty-four French-speaking students in a northeast Ontario (Canada) elementary school were administered an intelligence test in grades three, five, and eight.
