Peer reviewedLinn, Robert L. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1987
Reviews significant contributions made by Melvin R. Novick to the theory and practice of educational and psychological measurement. Discusses Test Theory, Criterion-Referenced Measurement, Prediction Systems, and Differential Prediction. (RB)
Descriptors: Measurement Techniques, Psychometrics, Statistics, Theory Practice Relationship
Peer reviewedLutwak, Nita; Hennessy, James – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1985
Examined the interpretation of measures of moral development to individuals from three phases of test interpretation. Interpretations based on the meaning of the scale, the meaning of the score, and specific meaning to the individual are explored. (Author)
Descriptors: Measurement Techniques, Moral Development, Psychometrics, Test Interpretation
Peer reviewedMcDonald, Roderick P. – Psychometrika, 1983
Under conditions commonly met in optimal scaling problems, arbitrary sets of optimal weights can be obtained by choices of generalized universe scores. It is suggested that the invariant parameters of optimal scaling should be interpreted according to latent trait theory, rather than the arbitrary weights. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Latent Trait Theory, Multidimensional Scaling, Psychometrics, Scaling
Peer reviewedConger, Anthony J.; Lipshitz, Raanan – Psychometrika, 1973
The major goal of this paper was to provide a definition and measure of profile reliability and considered the problem of constructing reliable profile dimensions. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Definitions, Factor Analysis, Psychometrics, Reliability
Peer reviewedWeiner, B. – Human Development, 1973
Psychologists have stressed the measurement of ability and neglected the subjective determinants of achievement striving and achievement evaluation. The moral aspects of achievement should be considered. (ST)
Descriptors: Achievement, Achievement Tests, Moral Development, Motivation
Peer reviewedJackson, Douglas N. – Psychological Review, 1971
Descriptors: Item Analysis, Personality Measures, Psychometrics, Statistical Analysis
Hastings, J. Thomas – J Educ Meas, 1969
In remarks made at the meeting of the National Council of Measurement in Education (Los Angeles, 1969), the author suggests that techniques borrowed from history, economics and sociology are relevant to the "evaluation of educational endeavors. (Author/AP)
Descriptors: Biology, Educational Research, Evaluation, Measurement Techniques

Descriptors: Measurement Techniques, Mental Health, Psychometrics, Student Adjustment
Peer reviewedRamsay, J. O. – Psychometrika, 1982
Data are often a continuous function of a variable such as time observed over some interval. One or more such functions might be observed for each subject. The extension of classical data analytic techniques to such functions is discussed. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Mathematical Models, Multivariate Analysis, Psychometrics
Peer reviewedWard, L. Charles; Selby, Rosemary B. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1980
A short form of the MMPI, the Improved Readability Form (IRF), was shown to contain items that were more readable, more stable, and less ambiguous than excluded items. Results suggest that the IRF may function as well as available short forms with persons of normal and near normal intelligence. (Author)
Descriptors: Adults, Comprehension, Personality Measures, Psychometrics
Peer reviewedLutz, J. Gary – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
Judgment analysis is a technique for examining the behavior of judges in rating subjects on a single attribute. This paper presents the multivariate analogue to that technique, which consists of rating subjects on several attributes. The logic of the extension and an example are presented. (JKS)
Descriptors: Cluster Analysis, Measurement Techniques, Psychometrics, Rating Scales
Peer reviewedNeubauer, Aljoscha C.; Bucik, Valentin – Intelligence, 1996
The relationship between mental speed and IQ was studied with 120 adults who completed a battery of elementary cognitive tests (ECTs). As expected, high speed of information processing on ECTs was related to high psychometric intelligence, but this relationship could not be localized at the level of general intelligence. (SLD)
Descriptors: Adults, Cognitive Processes, Intelligence, Intelligence Quotient
Peer reviewedStauffer, Joseph M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1996
MetaDOS is a point-and-click PASCAL program for meta-analysis that provides a user-friendly, Windows-type interface for DOS systems. Its statistical procedures basically follow those developed by J. E. Hunter and F. L. Schmidt and their colleagues (1990 and 1993). (Author/SLD)

Peer reviewedMurray, Greg; Rawlings, David; Allen, Nicholas B.; Trinder, John – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2003
Psychometric analysis of scores from the NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) confirmed their internal and test-retest reliability in an Australian adult sample. The data also provided support for the internal and temporal reliability of scores derived from 13 lower order item clusters identified in the NEO-FFI. (Contains 25 references and 4…

Peer reviewedOnwuegbuzie, Anthony J.; Daniel, Larry G. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2002
This article provides a framework for reporting internal consistency reliability in counseling research and other related social science fields, including guidelines relative to score reliability coefficients and associated confidence intervals for both full sample and subgroups. Follow-up techniques for investigating low score reliability are…
