Peer reviewedLewis, M. – Human Development, 1973
Descriptors: Infants, Intellectual Development, Intelligence, Intervention
Peer reviewedDunn, James E. – Psychometrika, 1973
A counterexample is produced to a conjecture by K. G. Joreskog concerning sufficiency conditions for uniqueness of a restricted factor matrix. A substitute condition is stated and proved for the most common situation where the restricted elements are specified to be zero. (Author)
Descriptors: Factor Analysis, Factor Structure, Mathematical Applications, Models
Meyers, C. E. – Educ Psychol Meas, 1969
Descriptors: Factor Analysis, Predictive Measurement, Psycholinguistics, Psychometrics
Peer reviewedTseng, M. S. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1971
Descriptors: Motivation, Occupational Aspiration, Psychometrics, Socioeconomic Influences
McQuitty, Louis L. – Educ Psychol Meas, 1970
A method is developed and illustrated which relaxes the principle of reciprocity in relation to characteristics of data and classifies in terms of successive levels of reciprocity, using two versions: (a) successive linkages, and (b) core assignments. (Author/RF)
Descriptors: Measurement Techniques, Psychometrics, Reciprocals (Mathematics), Statistical Analysis
Bentler, P. M. – Educ Psychol Meas, 1970
Factor analysis of artificial data is shown to yield an incorrect number of dimensions, seven, while monotonicity analysis recovered completely and accurately the fact that the data was generated from two latent dimensions. (RF)
Descriptors: Factor Analysis, Measurement Techniques, Psychometrics, Statistical Analysis
Peer reviewedWechsler, David – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1981
The author provides an historical review of how he came to construct the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS). Concepts underlying the WAIS are related to prior work in psychometrics. (RD)
Descriptors: Intellectual Development, Intelligence Tests, Psychometrics, Test Construction
Peer reviewedDziuban, Charles D.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The distributional characteristics of Kaiser's Measure of Sampling Adequacy (MSA) were investigated in sample matrices generated from multivariate normal populations of specified correlation levels. Systematic variation of sample size and number of variables revealed the overall MSA to be most influenced by the number of variables. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Correlation, Factor Analysis, Item Sampling, Psychometrics
Peer reviewedDimitrov, Dimiter M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2002
Discusses reliability issues in light of recent studies and debates focused on psychometrics versus datametrics terminology and reliabilities generalization. Discusses the way multiple perspectives on score reliability may affect research practice, editorial policies, and reliability generalization across studies. (SLD)
Descriptors: Generalization, Meta Analysis, Psychometrics, Reliability
Peer reviewedProsnick, Kevin P.; Evans, William J.; Farris, Jaelyn R. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2003
This research reports the development and psychometric properties of scores from the 10-item Short Index of Self-Directedness (SISD), drawn from the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI; C. R. Cloninger, 1987/1992a) and the TCI-125 (C. R. Cloninger, 1992b). Factor structure, construct validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability…

Peer reviewedBusacca, Louis A.; Taber, Brian J. – Journal of Career Assessment, 2002
The Career Maturity Inventory-Revised (CMI-R) and Occupational Plans Questionnaire were completed by 157 high school students. Analysis of construct and criterion validity demonstrated modest but limited support for CMI-R. Its scales were found to have low internal consistency reliabilities. The Attitude Scale, Competence Test, and total score…

Peer reviewedSawilowsky, Shlomo S. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2002
Presents a quick distribution-free test that contributes evidence of construct validity from the Multitrait-Multimethod Matrix. The procedure is carried by reducing the heterotrait-heteromethod and heterotrait-monomethod triangles and the validity and reliability diagonals into a matrix of four levels. The null hypothesis states that the values…
Descriptors: Construct Validity, Multitrait Multimethod Techniques, Psychometrics, Statistical Analysis
Peer reviewedEdwards, Todd C.; Huebner, Colleen E.; Connell, Frederick A.; Patrick, Donald L. – Journal of Adolescence, 2002
Few quality of life instruments exist that focus on the positive aspects of adolescence, incorporate adolescents' perspectives and language, and apply to both general and vulnerable populations. With these goals in mind, a conceptual and measurement model was developed to guide construction of the Youth Quality of Life Instrument-Research Version.…
Descriptors: Adolescents, Measures (Individuals), Models, Psychometrics
Peer reviewedKopelman, Richard E.; Rovenpor, Janet L.; Guan, Mingwei – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 2003
The Study of Values instrument was updated by modifying 15 of 45 items and tested with 179 students who also completed the original version. Psychometric properties of the updated scales were comparable to the original. The new version eliminates dated language and improves religious inclusiveness. (Contains 29 references.) (SK)
Descriptors: Personality Measures, Personality Traits, Psychometrics, Test Construction
Peer reviewedSnow, Mark; Thurber, Steven; Hodgson, Joele M. – Adolescence, 2002
Item content of the Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test (MAST) was modified to make it more appropriate for young persons. The resulting test was found to have lower internal consistency than the adult MAST, but the elimination of five items with comparatively poor psychometric properties yielded an acceptable alpha coefficient. (Contains 10…
