Peer reviewedRogers, Paul W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Two procedures for the display of item analysis statistics are described. One procedure allows for investigation of difficulty; the second plots item difficulty against item discrimination. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Difficulty Level, Graphs, Guidelines, Item Analysis
Los Arcos, J. M.; Vano, E. – Educational Technology, 1978
Describes a computer-managed instructional system used to formulate, print, and evaluate true-false questions for testing purposes. The design of the system and its application in medical and nuclear engineering courses in two Spanish institutions of higher learning are detailed. (RAO)
Descriptors: Computer Assisted Testing, Computer Managed Instruction, Diagrams, Higher Education
Peer reviewedFriel, S.; Johnstone, A. H. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Compares four different scoring systems in a study of 103 subjects answering a 20 item multiple choice test. Three of the four systems uses a weighted response technique, giving credit for partial knowledge. This seemed to have a significant effect on final grades and gave a more accurate grade representation. (MA)
Descriptors: Educational Research, Grading, Multiple Choice Tests, Science Education
Taylor, Edwin F. – Today's Education, 1977
The root of problems in standardized testing is the test makers' goal of lining up children along a single line from highest-scoring to lowest-scoring individual. Standardized tests reflect no sense, no reality, and no logic. (MJB)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Elementary Secondary Education, Goal Orientation, Standardized Tests
Peer reviewedWilcox, Rand R. – Psychometrika, 1978
Several Bayesian approaches to the simultaneous estimation of the means of k binomial populations are discussed. This has particular applicability to criterion-referenced or mastery testing. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Bayesian Statistics, Criterion Referenced Tests, Mastery Tests, Probability
Peer reviewedFreedman, Richard D.; Stumpf, Stephen A. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1978
Validation studies of the Course-Faculty Evaluation Instrument (CFI) were analyzed, using a multitrait-multimethod (MTMM) strategy. Using an analysis of variance framework to summarize MTMM matrices, the CFI demonstrated greater discriminant validity using more dimensions (traits) and had a lower error component than the Courseg Scales
Descriptors: Higher Education, Student Evaluation of Teacher Performance, Teacher Evaluation, Test Construction
Peer reviewedTurner, Lawrence E., Jr. – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Describes the construction of a test item file for an Introductory Astronomy course. The questions are typed on cards, arranged by a content categorization scheme for quick retrieval, and classified according to behavioral objectives. (GA)
Descriptors: Astronomy, College Science, Evaluation, Filing
Peer reviewedHill, B. J. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1978
Investigates empirically, for a sample of university examinations in engineering, the influence of examination length on reliability and discrimination. (Author)
Descriptors: Educational Psychology, Grading, Illustrations, Item Analysis
Peer reviewedCliff, Norman – Psychometrika, 1977
Measures of consistency and completeness of order relationships derived from test data such as Guttman scales are proposed. The measures are generalized to apply to incomplete data such as data from tailored testing. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Adaptive Testing, Computer Assisted Testing, Computer Programs, Item Analysis
Peer reviewedSchmidt, Frank L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
Urry's procedure for approximating latent trait test models is shown to tend to underestimate item discriminatory power and overestimate item difficulty. A method for correcting these biases is provided, and implications of the procedures are discussed. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Item Analysis, Latent Trait Theory, Mathematical Models, Test Bias
Peer reviewedCudeck, Robert A.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
TAILOR, a FORTRAN computer program for tailored testing, is described. The procedure for a joint ordering of persons and items with no pretesting as the basis for the tailored test is given, and a brief discussion of the computer program is included. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Adaptive Testing, Computer Assisted Testing, Computer Programs, Test Construction
Peer reviewedMcCormick, Douglas J.; Cliff, Norman – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
An interactive computer program for tailored testing, called TAILOR, is presented. The program runs on the APL system. A cumulative file for each examinee is established and tests are then tailored to each examinee; extensive pretesting is not necessary. (JKS)
Descriptors: Adaptive Testing, Computer Assisted Testing, Computer Programs, Test Construction
Peer reviewedClopton, James R.; Neuringer, Charles – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
A set of computer programs, which performs necessary item analysis and related procedures for developing new scales for the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, is described. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Computer Assisted Testing, Computer Programs, Item Analysis, Measurement Techniques
Peer reviewedDickson, Gary L.; And Others – Journal of College and University Student Housing, 1977
Describes the development of the RASI, a self-report instrument for the measurement of resident assistant anxiety. Designed to identify the type and level of stress perceived by the RA. Covers a description of the instrument, reliability, validity and uses. (Author/DOW)
Descriptors: Anxiety, Inservice Education, Research Projects, Resident Assistants
Knight, Roger – Times Educational Supplement (London), 1978
Suggests that the continuing divergence between good English teaching and the demands of the examiners is helping to undermine public confidence in schools. (Editor)
Descriptors: Academic Standards, English Curriculum, Relevance (Education), Test Construction
