Peer reviewedThauberger, Patrick C.; And Others – Journal of Research in Personality, 1982
Research in existentialism and ontology has given rise to several psychometric instruments. Used both exploratory and confirmatory principal-factor analyses to study relationships among 16 existential scales. Exploratory factor analysis provided some support of the theory that the avoidance of existential confrontation is a central function of…

Peer reviewedRussell, Stephen F.; Ludenia, Krista – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Examined the psychometric properties of the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control (MHLC) Scales with alcoholic patients (N=100). The three MHLC Scales appear to measure largely independent dimensions of locus of control beliefs specifically related to health. Factor analyses suggest that the instrument is factorily valid. (Author/JAC)
Descriptors: Alcoholism, Beliefs, Factor Analysis, Locus of Control
Peer reviewedVance, Booney; And Others – Psychology in the Schools, 1983
Investigated the relationship between the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised (PPVT-R) and the McCarthy Screening Test (MST) with a sample of 39 children whose mean age was 62.3 months. All of the subtests of the MST, excluding Numerical Memory and Leg Coordination, correlated positively and significantly with the PPVT-R. (Author)

Peer reviewedMadden, Joseph M. – Personnel Psychology, 1981
Discusses an indirect method of attitude measurement, policy-capturing, that can be applied on an individual basis. In three experiments this method detected prejudicial attitudes toward females not detected with traditional methods. Can be used as a self-improvement diagnostic tool for developing awareness of behavior influences. (JAC)
Descriptors: Attitude Measures, Counseling Techniques, Employee Attitudes, Evaluation Methods
Peer reviewedZilberg, Nathan J.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1982
Presents necessary cross-validational evidence on the Impact of Event Scale, a measure introduced to provide researchers with a psychometrically sound self-report instrument assessing the essential characteristics associated with stress disorders. The data were consistent with a clinically derived theoretical model of the pattern of response to…
Descriptors: Adults, Personality Measures, Psychometrics, Rating Scales
Peer reviewedEidelson, Roy J.; Epstein, Norman – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1982
Describes development and validation of an inventory measuring five dysfunctional relationship beliefs. This Relationship Belief Inventory (RBI) was administered to couples along with measures of marital functioning and a questionnaire assessing irrational beliefs about self. Results demonstrated internal consistency, convergent validity, and…

Peer reviewedVeiel, H.; Coles, E. M. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
Definitions of projective tests are critiqued. A distinction is made between projective tests and projective techniques. The unique feature of the latter is its scoring process: response categories are intensionally defined and comprise infinite sets of responses. A continuity from psychometric to projective tests is argued. Statistical…

Peer reviewedColberg, Magda; And Others – Intelligence, 1982
An historical overview of inductive logic is presented, including the logic of enumerative induction in its rule-derivative and event-predictive forms. An experimental test model of event-predictive induction in the linguistic medium is discussed along with its theoretical significance for future psychometric investigations. (Author/CM)
Descriptors: Adults, Aptitude Tests, Higher Education, Induction
Peer reviewedKausler, Donald H.; Puckett, James M. – Journal of Gerontology, 1980
Study replicates and extends the results obtained by Attig and Hasher (1980) in finding null effects for adult age variation and instructional variation on a relative frequency judgment task. Finds nonsignificant covariation for both young and elderly adults between judgment proficiency and paired-associate learning proficiency. (Author)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Cognitive Measurement, Intelligence Differences, Memory
Peer reviewedCostello, Raymond M.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1982
Studied the effect of different base rates of a target phenomenon on psychometric efficiency when an explicit decision-making rule was used to evaluate police officers. Concluded that numerous predictive indices would be required to screen such a heterogeneous population. (Author/JAC)
Descriptors: Behavioral Science Research, Job Applicants, Personality Traits, Personnel Evaluation
Peer reviewedHorn, John L. – Intelligence, 1979
The state of research on intelligence is reviewed in an editorial. The author notes conceptual, measurement, and data analysis problems. Suggestions as to how research on intelligence can be improved are provided. (RD)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Editorials, Educational Policy, Intelligence
Peer reviewedThorne, Frederick C. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1980
The measurement of psychological states requires an entirely different technology from the classical personality inventory assessments of psychological traits. Differences in the requirements of state v trait measurement are discussed. Problems of naming, labelling, describing, defining, and interpretation are discussed in relation to…

Peer reviewedAntonak, Richard F. – Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, 1980
Responses of 326 university students to 20-item Attitude toward Disabled Persons (ATDP) scale, Form-O were used to explore psychometric properties and factorial structure of the scale. Inability of several items to discriminate between high and low scorers and tendency for subjects to select extreme response alternatives do not support continued…

Peer reviewedGliksman, Louis; And Others – Journal of Drug Education, 1980
This questionnaire contains measures of attitudes, motivation, behavior and knowledge associated with alcohol use and abuse. Although the Adolescent Alcohol Questionnaire was created for use with a specific education program, results suggest its utility in the evaluation of other education programs. (Author)
Descriptors: Adolescents, Alcoholism, Attitude Measures, Behavior Patterns
Peer reviewedHinman, Suki; Bolton, Brian – Psychology of Women Quarterly, 1980
A study of disadvantaged women showed they exhibited submissiveness, depressed motivation, poor self esteem, but positive work attitudes. Black, less intelligent, and less educated women were less positive toward work and more externally oriented. Counseling procedures should be based on a differentiation between diminished and initial lack of…
