Gray, B. Thomas – 1997
Validity is a critically important issue with far-reaching implications for testing. The history of conceptualizations of validity over the past 50 years is reviewed, and 3 important areas of controversy are examined. First, the question of whether the three traditionally recognized types of validity should be integrated as a unitary entity of…

Thompson, Bruce – 1996
The program evaluation standards approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in 1994 that deal with reliability and validity accurately represent contemporary views of the psychometric community with regard to reliability and validity. As such, these standards move the field forward. The ANSI standards recognize that reliability…

Westbrook, Bert W. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1974
Descriptive behavioral statements were written for each of the 609 items found on six career development tests in order to compare the tests in terms of their coverage of the major career development components and in terms of the specific learner behaviors included in the test outline. (Author)

MADDEN, HOWARD L.; TUPES, ERNEST C. – 1966
CONVERSION TABLES ARE PRESENTED FOR ESTIMATING READING ACHIEVEMENT (READING GRADE LEVEL AS MEASURED BY THE CALIFORNIA ACHIEVEMENT TEST AND SCALED SCORE AS MEASURED BY THE DAVIS READING TEST) FROM THE AIRMAN QUALIFYING EXAMINATION GENERAL APTITUDE INDEX. DISTRIBUTIONS OF ESTIMATED READING GRADE ARE SHOWN FOR NON-PRIOR-SERVICE AIRMEN ENTERING THE…

Miller, C.D.; and others – 1968
Micro-counseling, based on micro-teaching principles, was used in a pre-practicum training program to teach specific objectives related to test interpretation. Wesman, Alexander G. – Test Service Bulletin, 1958
Comparable scores represent equal rank in a given population-they imply nothing concerning what is being measured. Equivalent scores represent similarity of what is being measured -- the more complete the equivalence, the greater the likeness of measurement. The test user would do well to keep these distinctions in mind; to avoid being confused…

Woodhouse, Brian; Jackson, Paul H. – Psychometrika, 1977
Finding and interpreting lower bounds for reliability coefficients for tests with non-homogeneous items has been a problem for psychometricians. A computer search procedure is developed for locating such a lower bound in a variety of settings. (Author/JKS)

Rao, Anthony V.; Potash, Herbert M. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Hutt's hypothesis that anxiety is reflected by absolute size deviations on reproduced Bender-Gestalt figures was investigated by administering the test to 40 subjects. Measures of trait anxiety and defensive style were found to be intercorrelated significantly and to interact significantly with anxiety condition. (Author/BL)

Tatsuoka, Kikumi K. – Psychometrika, 1984
In this study, the statistical properties of extended caution indices are investigated, and their relationships to Guttman scales and to item and person response curves are discussed. Further, these indices are standardized, and an example of their potential usefulness for diagnosing students' misconceptions is shown. (Author/BW)

Faulstich, Michael; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1986
Investigated the factor structure of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R) for incarcerated individuals (N=234). Coefficients of congruence between the current factors and those of the WAIS-R standardization sample indicated a high degree of correspondence. (Author/BL)

Fisher, Gary L.; Jenkins, Stephen J. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1986
Accuracy, interpretability, and user friendliness are some of the relevant criteria used to determine the comparative worthwhileness of three computer programs designed for interpreting the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised. (Author/ABB)

Silverstein, A. B. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
The findings of research on short forms of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scales-Revised are used to illustrate points about three criteria for evaluating the usefulness of a short form. Results indicate there is little justification for regarding the three criteria as criteria. (Author/BL)
