Peer reviewedGill, David H.; And Others – Journal of Industrial Teacher Education, 1980
A reanalysis of research reported in the "Journal of Industrial Teacher Education" demonstrates a tendency among researchers to base interpretations of data entirely on the results of tests for statistically significant differences. The appraisal suggests that several of the published findings should be reviewed using additional data…

Peer reviewedBereiter, Carl; Scardamalia, Marlene – Intelligence, 1979
Raven's Progressive Matrices test items were analyzed for M demand (Pascual-Leone's developmental construct). Raw scores on the Raven could be deduced on the basis of FIT performance. (Author/RD)

Peer reviewedWildman, Terry M.; Fletcher, Harold J. – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1979
Students were administered either conditional syllogism, biconditional syllogism, or conditional and biconditional syllogism tests. Analyses confirmed a tendency towards biconditionality. With conditional syllogisms, results indicated variations across forms of both major and second premises and a reversed developmental trend on problems which…

Monty, Richard A.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1979
It was hypothesized that freedom to choose words to be learned, but not the actual choice of words per se, improves performance in paired-associate tasks. Subjects offered an attractive or meaningful choice performed significantly better than subjects offered an unattractive choice, which was equivalent to no choice at all. (Author/CP)

Shea, John B.; Morgan, Robyn L. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1979
Retention and transfer of motor tasks was greater for high interference (random) acquisition groups than for low interference (blocked) acquisition groups. This effect was most notable when transfer was measured for the transfer task of greatest complexity. Results support Battig's conceptualization of contextual interference effects on retention…

Peer reviewedAnzai, Yuichiro; Simon, Herbert A. – Psychological Review, 1979
A theory is proposed of the processes which enable a subject to learn while solving a problem. One subject's protocol--including 224 steps and taking 90 minutes--is described. Adequacy of the mechanisms is guaranteed by a computer simulation of the processes in an adaptive production system. (Author/GDC)
