Presents a format for the assessment, evaluation, and comparison of the impact of encounter groups, illustrated by an evaluation of an encounter group of six students. The assessment procedure indicated desirable changes along several dimensions, but beneficial effects were not extensive. Emphasized the need for multimethod assessment. (JAC)

Results of this study indicated that from prelaboratory to post laboratory, subjects' ratings showed a decrement in self disclosure toward both male and female friends. Data indicate that students who participated in group counseling evaluated the experience positively. Teacher evaluations of students in group counseling more often than not indicated improved work habits, greater self confidence, reduced tension, and more positive attitudes toward school. (Author)
