The Adult Basic Learning Examination was administered to enrollees in a Concentrated Employment Program. On the basis of this investigation it was found that trainees obtained higher scores on the language skills than in computational areas. The suitability of the ABLE as a screening instrument for poverty programs is discussed. (Author)

The article concludes that a satisfactory program of vision screening requires a careful choice of testing procedures and referral policies, but it also requires decisions based on the philosophies of treatment of local practitioners and an understanding by parents of the purposes and methods of the program.
