An investigation of the causal attributions of success and failure performances on various levels of task difficulty by 36 learning disabled and 36 nondisabled adolescents revealed that Ss' perceptions of the task difficulty levels were significant determinants of the two groups' differing causal attributions. Surveys of 1,164 special educators revealed that they did not support a combination of the traditional categories of mental retardation and specific learning disabilities. Stein and Glenn's (1979) story schema provided the framework for testing 18 reading disabled adults' recall of stories that they had heard on tape, read orally, or read silently. The effects of reinforcement contingencies on task performance of bisensory missing words were studied with two students (about nine years old): one learning disabled (LD) male with an auditory preference and one LD female with a visual preference. The Motoric Music Skills Test was administered to 103 public school children, ages five through nine. Improved skills were related to age, and normal subjects attained a better performance in the areas of motor pattern coordination, eye-hand coordination, and speed and range of movement. (Author/RM)

The Basic Skills Improvement Program, adapted from a resource program model, serves learning problem adults unable to benefit from traditional adult education.
