The literature on interorganizational relations is reviewed. Four distinct research traditions are examined, and the prescriptive literature on coordination is reviewed. Describes a study conducted to assess the quality of institutional self-evaluation as perceived by accreditation team members visiting 11 Arizona high schools during 1978-1979. Why do some clients use institutional services, while others, with comparable impairment, use community-based services? Results indicated that the institutional group was more likely to have had previous service contact, to have less support from family members or friends, and to be more impaired. (Author)

The lack of utilization of evaluation studies is criticized. It is suggested that program directors be asked to submit proposals to evaluators which will demonstrate that the directors are competent to utilize the information provided and to assess the quality of the evaluation. (JKS)
