Pringle, Rhodell G.; Morgan, Ashley G. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1978
Uses a Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT) as an indicator of field-independency in an investigation with college graduate students. Results reveal that GEFT scores were not affected by the treatment of 18 hours of instruction in Science Curriculum Improvement Study (SCIS) materials or by pretesting effects. (CP)

O'Brien, Lawrence – Journal of Geological Education, 1978
Thin-section photomicrographs are used to introduce the introductory geology laboratory classes to many of the optical properties of minerals. Evaluation by questionnaire suggests that the study of thin sections has a positive effect on the enjoyment and understanding of rock identification and classification by introductory students. Gordon, Kurtiss J. – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Exercises for introductory to intermediate level college students are proposed. Observations of pulsars can be used to illustrate the phenomena of dispersion and Faraday rotation of radio waves, and to illustrate the differential rotation of the galaxy. (BB)

Arell, Antti; Kolari, Samuli – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Explains a laboratory experiment dealing with the optical features of the human eye. Shows how to measure the magnification of the retina and the refractive anomaly of the eye could be used to measure the refractive power of the observer's eye. (GA)

MacLatchy, C. S. – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Presents a quantitative laboratory experiment in geometrical optics. It involves the student in the measurement of the radius of curvature of the cornea and is based on an old method devised by Kohlrausch in 1839. (Author/GA)

Matteucci, G.; Pozzi, G. – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Presents the results of two experiments concerning the phenomena of the interference of probabilities and of the so called Aharonov-Bohm effect. An electron biprism and a standard electron microscope have been used for the experiments. (Author/GA)

Rubin, Morton H. – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Explores the problem of how to determine standards of performance for energy conversion processes. Argues against infinitely slow reversible processes as standards, and explores simple and faster alternative processes. (Author/GA)
Descriptors: College Science, Conservation Education, Efficiency, Energy
MOSAIC, 1978

West, Stephen G.; Gunn, Steven P. – American Psychologist, 1978
It is argued that there is a fundamental difference in the perception of the nature of man on the part of humanistic critics and traditional experimental social psychologists which leads to different assessments of the long-term effects of deception research on subjects. (Author/AM)
Descriptors: Correlation, Ethics, Field Studies, Laboratory Experiments
Gottlieb, Philip – American Vocational Journal, 1978
The author discusses the level of mathematics needed in biomedical technology programs. Technical institutes and community colleges across the country have varying math requirements, from first-year college algebra on into calculus. He suggests a study to determine the reasons for the variance, leading eventually to uniform quality. (MF)

Schein, Norman J. – American Metric Journal, 1976
Seven groups of activities related to the metric system are outlined. Each group is to be done at a laboratory station in the classroom. (SD)

White, A. S. – Physics Education, 1976
Describes a simple water channel, for use with an overhead projector. It is run from a water tap and may be used for flow visualization experiments, including the effect of streamlining and elementary building aerodynamics. (MLH)
