Among the variables examined were vocalizing to a child, vocalizing to a teacher, teaching child with approval, physically restraining child, and moving. Among findings were that group size was not significant for children's behavior but was significant for teachers' behavior. (SBH)

Teachers' verbal behaviors following oral-reading errors of primary-grade children were contrasted for high- and low-ability readers. This pre-post field study compared effects of a coping model (CM) and a lecture/discussion style on use of redirection, general praise, and paraphrasing by 48 undergraduates in an elementary health methods course. Results indicate a fairly wide "shared perception" of the fairness of teacher actions in general discipline, but significant differences on control of the academic process and content. Compared the effects of two behavior management strategies. More rapid and slightly greater improvement was achieved under the praise-soft reprimand combination than under the praise-ignore combination.
